Central Piedmont Theatre presents Tracks by Peter Tarsi

Tracks posterA group of strangers meets in a dirty subway station, all claiming to be in different cities. They soon learn the unfortunate truth: They are all dead. Since subway stations have opposite platforms, they reason that one train must be bound for Heaven; the other bound for Hell. But which platform are they on? They reflect upon their lives, sharing their virtues and vices, hoping to figure out which platform is which. As the subway train finally approaches, they must make a choice. Do they stay and ponder their actions further? Or do they board the train to their final destination?

Central Piedmont Theatre proudly presents two vastly different takes on this production. The M Train show is directed by Carly McMinn. The D Train show is directed by James Duke.

Both versions feature casts fully comprised of Central Piedmont students.

Here’s what you need to know:

About the Event

  • This event is an excellent chance for one-on-one or small group support in completing your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • We welcome all Central Piedmont students and their parents to register for this free event.
  • Our expert team from the Financial Aid Department, in collaboration with the College Foundation of North Carolina, will be there to guide you through the process.

Preparation for the Event

  • If you still need to, please create your StudentAid.gov Account (formerly FSA ID) before the event. This will ensure a smooth and quick login process, allowing you to submit your FAFSA efficiently at the event.

Blood Drive Coming to All Campuses

Did you know that one blood donation can save up to three lives? You have greater powers than you know! Please consider donating blood at the upcoming blood drive on your designated campus this week and next week. Campus-specific drives are listed below. All donors will receive a $20 eGift Card, a OneBlood long-sleeve t-shirt, and a Wellness checkup.

Appointments are strongly encouraged by signing up in advance using the links below. To donate blood, a student must be 16 and over. Students 16 years of age will need a consent form signed by a guardian. Students 17 years of age do not need a consent form.

Intangible Words by Marge Loudon Moody

Marge Loudon MoodyThe Bill and Patty Gorelick Galleries at Central Piedmont Community College are pleased to announce a new exhibition by Marge Loudon Moody. Moody is a Professor Emerita of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where she taught for over 30 years. Widely exhibited both nationally and internationally, Moody’s work exists in private and public collections worldwide.

‘Intangible Words’ broadly investigates environments inspired by Moody’s travels and imagination. Through the use of bright colors, abstract forms, and continuous reworking of the composition, Moody creates the “essential” feeling of certain environments. Non-representational imagery utilizes the “essential” nature in order to illuminate the unseen or intangible spirit of the subject. “Subject matter may serve as a metaphor for intangible ideas. The work examines boundaries, addresses the fragility of existence, of presence, of absence, and of memory,” says Moody.

Moody will also serve as this year’s Juror for Central Piedmont’s ‘2024 Annual Juried Student Art Show.’

Fragments by Tina Alberni

Tina Alberni Home ShelterThe Bill and Patty Gorelick Galleries will travel a special exhibition of Tina Alberni’s artwork between Central, Cato, and Levine Campuses for the 2024 academic year.

Alberni derived this series of works from the impact of climate change and the harm created by aspects of technological development and progress. With a deep belief that all living things possess an intrinsic value and are not simply human beings, Alberni challenges the viewer to consider topics such as how natural disasters, war, and social disparity contribute to the endangerment and physical displacement of all living things.

Alberni uses her new exhibition ‘Fragments’ to illustrate the narrative of fragmented lives and irreversible damage both visually and physically. In contrast to the hopeless narrative of destruction, Alberni seeks to use her artwork to create a positive, hopeful spirit for the future. Alberni assembles objects and layers in her work in a brightly colored, harmonious fashion, which invites the viewer in for a deeper contemplation of each composition.

Alberni’s work will be on display at Central Piedmont for 2024 and will be part of the Gorelick Gallery’s traveling artwork series.

Central Campus Library, in the Parr Center, offers 3D printing, laser engraving and cutting, sewing and embroidery, vinyl cutting, large format printing, and an array of arts and craft supplies to help you get started making. For more information about our Makerspace, check out our guide.

Cato, Harper, Harris, Levine, and Merancas Libraries offer 3D printing,  vinyl cutting, and other amenities. Stop by your local library, meet your librarians, and check out the makerspace activities available for you to start making.

New tutoring and academic support options

Two students and an employee studying and working together to learn.The Academic Learning Center (ALC) has launched new tutoring options to help you be successful in your classes, with choices to get academic support throughout the day, evening, and on weekends.

You have two options to receive academic support. You can make an appointment with an ALC tutor right here on campus for either in-person or virtual support during the day.
You can also make a virtual appointment with a Brainfuse tutor, for appointments after 5 p.m. in the evenings, and on weekends.

Review the full student user guide for all the details, and learn how to:

  • Access the ALC Academic Support Platform
  • Make an appointment with an ALC Tutor using Tutor Match
  • Make an appointment with a Brainfuse tutor using Live Help

Here are a few important things to keep in mind:

Levine Campus Fire Drill April 10-14

The college will be holding a fire drill at Levine campus next week (April 10-14). During the fire evacuation drill you will hear the fire alarm sound, see strobe lights flashing, and hear voice commands to evacuate, coming from both building captains and Central Piedmont Security. Please evacuate outside to the nearest rally point sign.

We ask for your full cooperation during these drills. The expected duration for each drill will be approximately 10-15 minutes.
