Career Services is More Social Than Ever!

Are you active on Facebook and Twitter? The CPCC Career Services office recently launched its own Facebook page and Twitter account. Like them (www.facebook.com/cpcccareerservices) and follow them (@cpcc_career) to get up-to-date information about programs, events and all things career-related. Use these outlets to ask questions, get answers and get involved with your career services office.

 

CPCC Launches Instagram Account

CPCC has added an Instagram account – @cpccsocial – to its host of social media channels. Instagram
Instagram is a popular social media service that allows users to take photos and videos with a mobile phone, apply a filter to transform the image, and then share with others.
The free app is available for both iPhone and Android. Administered by the college’s Community Relations and Marketing Services Department, the college’s Instagram account will feature a wide-array of CPCC-related pictures and videos, ranging from campus beauty shots to videos of student events and activities.
Start following @CPCC today at www.instagram.com/cpccsocial and be sure to use #cpcc to ensure your photos are shared with the college’s followers on our new site!

Title: I’m selected for financial aid verification, now what?
Date: Friday, February 7, 2014
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.

Description: One out of every three FAFSA applications processed by the U.S. Department of Education and received by the CPCC Financial Aid Office are randomly selected for review in a process called “verification.” Applicants selected for verification are required to submit documents needed in confirming the accuracy of information provided on the FAFSA. This workshop is designed to allow students to ask questions related to the steps in the verification process and requested documents needed to complete their financial aid file. Join a financial aid advisor as they go through the verification process and answer any questions.

Description: Filling out the FAFSA can be one of the toughest parts of attending college — but it doesn’t have to be. During this online workshop you will learn the best ways to fill out the FAFSA. Topics include using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, navigating the applicant “Dependency Questions,” and more. All attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the application process.

NOTE – Due to winter weather which impacted college operations, this hangout has been rescheduled to Friday, March 7, 2014.

Title: What is Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and how does it affect my financial aid status?
Date: Friday, February 21, 2014
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.

Description: Financial aid students are required to meet federal financial aid standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Students that fail to meet these federal guidelines potentially might lose their financial aid eligibility. This workshop is designed to define the federal financial aid standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and discuss how failure to comply with these policies might impact a student’s future financial aid eligibility.

Title: How do I apply for scholarships?
Date: Friday, February 28, 2014
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.

Description: Students that fail to qualify for federal or state grants after completing the FAFSA process are encouraged to apply for CPCC Institutional Scholarships. This workshop is designed to explain the eligibility criteria needed to be considered for CPCC Institutional Scholarship offerings, outline the online scholarship application process and show students how to navigate the Academic Works scholarship portal in searching for available scholarship offerings.

THE Geek Fest, a celebration of innovation and technology, is coming to CPCC’s Levine Campus on Thursday, Nov. 14 and will feature the latest in technology, innovation and professional opportunities. The greater Charlotte community is encouraged to participate in this free event.

Attendees will interact with exciting new technologies, meet innovative companies and learn from industry experts. This year’s event will highlight a variety of exciting topics, including launching a startup business, product development, social media, programming and software development, animation, automotive technology, engineering, mobile computing, instructional technology and much more. Activities will include guest speakers, an exhibit hall, demonstrations, activities, video games, music, contests, food and door prizes.

Students, are you considering a future career in Internet communications, new media, social media, journalism or marketing? If so, Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) may have a great volunteer or internship opportunity for you!

CPCC’s Community Relations and Marketing Services (CRMS) area is currently forming a team of student collaborators to develop its online and social media presence. We are seeking creative and energetic candidates to assist in creating engaging content, developing interactive media and building online communities. This is a great opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience and insights within your career track of choice.

This is an unpaid volunteer learning experience offered to a limited number of qualified career-seeking college students. Candidates from Charlotte area colleges and universities will be considered. Through CPCC’s Co-Operative Education program, some CPCC students may also be eligible for college credit.
