Duo app required for Central Piedmont accounts

Green "Duo" app logo with stylized text.Central Piedmont uses Duo as its multifactor authentication (MFA) app, which sends a notification to your smartphone or other device to confirm your identity after you enter your username and password. All accounts will be required to use Duo beginning on March 6.

SET UP DUO FOR THE FIRST TIME
Use the Account Management Portal to set up your smartphone or other device to use Duo. You will use your Central Piedmont username and password. Make sure to select the “student” domain.

Visit the Information Technology Services (ITS) Knowledge Base for step-by-step directions.

If you don’t have a smartphone or tablet that can use an app, contact the Service Desk.

If you need any technical support for Duo, please “Submit a Ticket” through the ITS Service Desk portal or call 704.330.5000.

Central Piedmont Black History Month events

Since its conception as National Negro Week in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Wooden, the month of February is a special time for individuals around the world to acknowledge, remember and share the enriching African-American experience as part of American history, to help foster more equity and inclusion, and to embrace America’s diversity. Learn more about the origins of Black History Month and this year’s theme: Black Resistance.

Tangled & Twisted: Understanding the Dynamics of Black Hair

Join us for an engaging and enlightening presentation on the history, social and political stigmas and unspoken implications about ‘black hair’- a double-headed cultural enigma that is too often stereotyped and misunderstood.

This presentation will be facilitated by Ms. LaTika “Tika” Mercer, a former adjunct instructor at Central Piedmont’s nationally recognized cosmetology program and co-owner of Lucky You Salon and Suites.

Black Resistance: Forms of Opposition 1600s-1800s

Through the lens of history, music, psychology, and literature, discussion about forms of opposition from enslaved people from the lens of history, music, psychology, and literature. Join us for this in person and live-streamed event to gain insight on how black resistance from this time period still influences perceptions in today’s world.

‘Archival Photos Reimagined’ exhibit opening at Library

Archives are more than just a collection of old papers, photographs, and artifacts. They provide windows into the past, making them valuable resources for learning our history and its lessons.
They can also be sources of inspiration for creative expression. What was once a static black-and-white photograph can become a springboard for a creative sketch, illustration, or painting.
That’s the idea behind Archival Photos Reimagined, a collaborative project between the Central Piedmont Archives and the Visual Arts Club that encourages members of the Central Piedmont community to create works of art inspired by our photographs and publications collections.
Opening on February 6, we invite you to visit the exhibition in the Archives Reading Room, where you will find a display of artworks incorporating elements from the archival photos that inspired them and varying in style, medium, and subject matter.

The Digital Literacy Learning Space provides student-centered technology training and digital literacy assessments to help you develop essential technology skills. We offer individual and group technology training appointments to discuss, review, and resolve your immediate needs.

We can help! Our one hour, virtual instructional sessions will give you hands-on experience with Brightspace. Review the Brightspace practice sessions schedule and register today.

These sessions will demonstrate how to:

  • navigate Brightspace
  • turn on notifications
  • download the Brightspace Pulse app
  • take quizzes
  • upload assignments
  • post discussions
  • complete an Enrollment Verification Activity

These sessions are open to all students. We think you should strongly consider signing up for this additional help if you:

  • are new to Central Piedmont
  • are an English as a Foreign Language student
  • do not feel comfortable with technology

We also encourage you to use the Brightspace Resource Guide for extra help if needed.

Fast Track your Path with Winter Session

Classes are filling fast, but there are still seats available in 4-week classes that start Dec. 5. These winter session classes are all online and run over the winter break through Jan. 3, 2023.

Central Piedmont charges for a maximum of 16 credit hours per term, so if you add additional credit hours over 16 for the fall term (including winter session), your tuition for other classes could be free! (Fees, supplies or textbook costs may still apply).

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare students for a global environment.

Central Piedmont is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Comission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which makes sure institutions comply with standards of education. The college works on continuous improvements, and is currently developing a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which is a requirement of the college’s process to keep our accreditation.

Student feedback was used to select the QEP topic, now we need your feedback to further refine it. Please join a virtual conversation on either:

The SEC stands as a voice for Central Piedmont students in the areas of policies, procedures and resources as it relates to diversity, inclusion and equity.

Survey: How do you pay for college?

Central Piedmont is launching a survey to learn more about your experiences and opinions concerning how you pay for college and how you address money issues. We are partnering with Trellis – a non-profit organization that helps students succeed in college – who will be sending out the survey on our behalf. Look for the survey from “Trellis Research” in your Central Piedmont student email on Monday, Oct. 24.
Completing this survey will help us work on plans to serve you and your classmates better as you move towards graduation. Also, students who participate will be entered into a national drawing to win a $50 Amazon gift card (50 total gift cards are being given away).

Your privacy is important to us – all your answers will be combined with others and will not be linked with you personally. Please complete this survey when you receive it. We really believe that learning about your experiences and challenges can help us better support you in your educational journey at Central Piedmont.

This program is being presented in a hybrid format in partnership with Central Piedmont Library, Office of Institutional Equity, Student Engagement, Mecklenburg County Community Support Services (CSS), and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
