Are You Seeking a Writing Intensive and/or Transferrable Class?

If so, learn more about the college’s Introduction to Journalism (JOU110) and Writing for Mass Media (JOU216) classes.

The college is adding day and evening sections of these classes at the WTVI PBS Charlotte television station in spring 2015. The station, at 3242 Commonwealth Avenue, is just three miles from Central Campus and is on the CATS bus line.
The college will offer three sections of Introduction to Journalism (JOU110), which provides the core reporting, writing and editing skills for news, feature and sports journalism. JOU110 also fulfills UNCC’s News Writing course and Writing Intensive requirements. JOU110 is available at the CPCC Levine Campus as well.
Writing for Mass Media (JOU216), also scheduled to be held at PBS Charlotte, covers reporting, writing and editing for print, Web, radio, television, public relations and advertising media.
Both courses fulfill college transfer elective requirements.
“The college has built a terrific state-of-the art classroom with computer stations and video editing software for our students housed in the PBS Charlotte building,” said Liz Rogers, journalism discipline chair. “Students in the communications field really benefit from the hands-on opportunities the classes and the technology provide.”
ENG111 is the prerequisite course for both JOU110 and JOU216. Spring 2015 classes begin Jan. 12. So ask your students to register today!

Writing for Mass Media covers reporting, writing and editing for print, Web, radio, television, public relations and advertising media. The course transfers as a college elective and is part of the Mass Communication/ Journalism pre-major.

JOU216 will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. to 1:05 p.m. at the television station starting Aug. 15. ENG111 is the prerequisite course for JOU216. WTVI-PBS Charlotte is located at 3242 Commonwealth Ave.

“JOU216 is one of the college’s journalism classes that teaches reporting skills through hands-on, ‘real world’ assignments,” explained Elizabeth Rogers, CPCC journalism instructor. “Offering the class at WTVI serves to strengthen and enrich those important and authentic learning experiences.”

Over the summer, CPCC will renovate a large space at WTVI, transforming it into a “smart classroom,” with up to 25 computer work stations.
