Fourteen CPCC Turfgrass Management Technology students attended the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association Conference on Nov. 14, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Each year the conference attracts golf course superintendents from throughout the Carolinas who meet to receive the latest education, research and equipment updates from leaders and innovators in the turfgrass industry.
In addition to including a number of seminars, demonstrations and exhibitor booths, the event also featured a Student Turf Bowl, a “Jeopardy-style” competition that asks contestants turfgrass-related questions.
Participating colleges were able to enter two teams from their respective institutions. Among those competing were Clemson University, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, CPCC, Sandhills Community College and N.C. State University.
CPCC’s Team A advanced to the championship round, after winning tough contests against two competitive N.C. State, Horry-Georgetown Technical College and Sandhills Community College teams. In the championship, CPCC faced both of Clemson’s A and B teams. CPCC finished third overall and won a $300 award.
Congratulations to CPCC’s Turfgrass Management Technology program on this accomplishment!
