Films on Demand, a streaming video platform that Central Piedmont Library subscribes to, contains thousands of educational videos. In the month of October, Films on Demand added more than 200 new videos to their collection. These new videos cover a wide range of subjects including business, politics, history, education, culture, and science.
Of particular note are the following new videos:
- Reconstruction: America After the Civil War – This PBS series, hosted by historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr., presents the definitive history of the transformative years following the American Civil War, when the nation struggled to rebuild itself.
- Marvel – Marvel are the superheroes of the entertainment world, but just three decades ago the company was on the brink of collapse, forced into an all-out war to survive. Former insiders give a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Marvel Universe and how the company fought its way back to the top.
- Facebookistan – We voluntarily share information on our Facebook walls, and by signing their Terms of Service, we have voluntarily allowed Facebook to use this information for whatever the company finds useful. This film investigates the paradox of a social media that promotes openness, transparency which encourages all of us to share but which as a company, reveals little of itself to the 1.4 billion people who use its services daily.
