The Music Man

June 5 – 13

“You got trouble in River City! With a capital T!” And that trouble’s name is Harold Hill -– the double-shuffle, two-bit, thimble-rigger con artist who rolls into River City station one hot Iowa summer and convinces the town that the answer their problems is a boy’s marching band. . But Harold’s plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when his heart is stolen by Marian the town librarian. Meredith Willson’s six-time Tony Award®-winning musical comedy, (beating out West Side Story for Best Musical), has become the All American Musical with its one-of-a-kind score including rousing marches (“Seventy-Six Trombones”) and soaring ballads (“Till There Was You”). Join CPST as we bring the family-friendly story of The Music Man to the Halton stage for the very first time. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is the kind of family entertainment to be shared by every generation.

Footloose

Kick off your Sunday shoes and cut loose as the explosive rock ‘n’ roll musical sensation Footloose comes to the Halton Theater for the first time. Footloose is a high energy, 80’s dance show based on the Kevin Bacon hit film. This musical is pure fun containing pop-rock hits like “Almost Paradise,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Holding out for a Hero” and the title song by Kenny Loggins – “Footloose.” When Ren, a city kid, arrives from Chicago and begins breaking all the rules in small town Bomont, TX sparks fly. Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. You will be dancin’ in the Halton Theater’s aisles when CPST brings the rockin’ rhythm of Footloose’s Oscar and Tony-nominated score to life this summer.

Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery

CPST invites you to put on your deerstalker cap this summer, the play’s afoot! Comedic genius Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo, The Games Afoot) transforms Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles, into a murderously funny theatrical adventure. A monstrous hound is stalking the male heirs of the Baskerville line. But fear not, Sherlock Holmes is on the case! A dizzying web of clues unravels as five actors deftly portray more than forty characters. Does a wild hellhound really prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can Holmes and Watson discover the truth in time? Join the fun at CPST and see how far from elementary, the truth can be.

“I don’t wanta grow up!” crows the boy who wouldn’t grow up in Disney’s enchanting musical retelling of J.M. Barrie’s timeless play – Peter Pan Jr.. Come along with Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, the Lost Boys and Tinker Bell in a magical journey to Neverland to foil Captain Hook and his pirates. Featuring the iconic songs, “I’m Flying,” “I’ve Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Never Never Land,” Peter Pan Jr follows Peter and Wendy as they rescue Tiger Lilly , escape the Mermaids and finally defeat Captain Hook. Join CPST this Summer as Peter Pan Jr whisks you away to a place where dreams are born and no one ever grows up!

Something Rotten!

Central Piedmont Summer Theatre welcomes you to the Renaissance and the most outrageous, crowd, pleasing musical farce ever written- Something Rotten! Set in the 1590’s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard”. When local soothsayer Nostradamus foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting all at the  same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s first musical- “Omlette”. However, amidst the scandalous excitement of the opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz. Something Rotten! is “The Funniest musical comedy in the at least 400 years!” (Time Out New York).
