Students, Staff to Perform Excerpt from “Coming of Age: Decisions” on April 6

Join us as TRIO and Mariot and G.M. Productions present an excerpt from “Coming of Age: Decisions” in Tate Hall on April 6 at 2:30 p.m., during Sensoria. The performance is free.

“Coming of Age: Decisions” tackles the topic of sexual assault and the many elements that lead to this tragic incident.

The performance will feature Central Piedmont DRE and ENG students, as well as individuals from Central Piedmont’s TRIO office. Following the performance, there will be a brief discussion about the play led by the writer and cast.

 

Support Central Piedmont Students at the Sensoria Student Talent Showcase April 9

Spring Semester Test of the Classroom Phone Paging System

The college-wide phone system in classrooms has the capability to turn each phone handset into a paging speaker. In an urgent situation, the college can page all phones in classrooms at once, by campus. Please be aware that we will test this new phone paging system on Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m.

This is also a great time to take a moment to confirm or update your mobile phone number and other contact information in our Critical Alert emergency text/phone/email system. It’s important to keep your contact info updated, because this is how the college will contact you if classes are cancelled or impacted due to inclement weather or if there’s an emergency situation.

  • Use your Central Piedmont login and password at cpcc.regroup.com.
  • To add text/call information, scroll down to the “PHONE NUMBERS” section and look for the “+ Add New Phone Number” option below any existing phone numbers.
  • To delete an incorrect phone number, select the trash can icon to the right of it.

Please note that you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your college email is the official channel of communication.

Deeply entrenched social stigma have kept recovery voices silent and faces hidden for decades. The vacuum created by this silence has been filled by sensational mass media depictions of addiction that continue to perpetuate a lurid public fascination with the dysfunctional side of what is a preventable and treatable health condition. Just like women with breast cancer, or people with HIV/AIDS, a grass roots social justice movement is emerging. Courageous addiction recovery advocates have come out of the shadows and are organizing to end discrimination and move toward recovery-based solutions. The moving story of “The Anonymous People” is told through the faces and voices of the citizens, leaders, volunteers, corporate executives, and public figures who are laying it all on the line to save the lives of others just like them. This passionate new public recovery movement is fueling a changing conversation that aims to transform public opinion, and finally shift problematic policy toward lasting solutions.

Applications Available for 2019-2020 Ruth G. Shaw Scholars Women’s Leadership Program

Applications are now available for the Ruth G. Shaw Women’s Leadership Program, a women’s leadership/mentorship program offered in partnership with the Central Piedmont Foundation and Student Life. This unique student program aims to:

  • Connect women students to one another and to a supportive network of community mentors
  • Inspire women students to assume positions of leadership and to celebrate their individual and collective achievements
  • Nurture female student leaders by encouraging and demonstrating critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving strategies
  • Foster a deeper awareness of the many roles women play and their contributions to society

The program is limited to 10-12 female students who will participate in sessions, both with RGS mentors and separately with scholars. Through monthly luncheons and guided conversations with community mentors, the Ruth G. Shaw Women’s Leadership Program offers:

  • Interaction with college leaders, faculty, staff, and alumnae
  • Personal and professional skill development
  • Hands-on leadership development
  • Recognition of achievement. As a culminating event and in collaboration with faculty, staff, and mentors, participants will plan and execute an annual spring capstone presentation about their experience in the program.

Andrea Vail is the featured visual artist for Sensoria 2019! Throughout Spring 2019, Vail facilitated “Bridging,” a multi-campus, collaborative, and large-scale fabric project culminating in its installation in the Overcash Lobby for Sensoria. “Bridging” is a tangible representation of Central Piedmont’s diverse community: coming from unique experiences, converging at Central Piedmont Community College, then venturing onward. Rooted in the intercultural and generational traditions of patterned textiles, this work, embellished with palm-sized tassels and printed with student-sourced imagery, is both inclusive of individual identities and realized as one unified fabric.

New Print Management System – Print Anywhere

Central Piedmont Information Technology Services has migrated the pay for print systems to a new system called Print Anywhere.  All student print quota balances were migrated over to the new system. For additional information about the new printing system, please visit our Print Anywhere website.  The website contains information on how to print and use the funding system.

NC STEM Alliance Workshop

All Central Piedmont students are invited to attend this week’s workshop held by the NC Mock INterviewSTEM Alliance. The topic this week is: “Soft Skills and Interview Skills.” Come out and get interviewing experience with professionals in different STEM careers. Each professional will help with gaining appropriate skills to help you stand out in any interview. This workshop will be held on March 21, 2019, from 3:30-5 p.m., in Zeiss Building, Room 1100 on Central Campus. Hope to see you there!

Join Student Life for a Visit to the Levine Museum on March 22

Join Student Life on March 22 at noon as we explore protesting, policing, and the historical context in which police-involved shootings occur through a structured program facilitated by a museum educator at the Levine Museum.

This small-group gathering is neither a debate nor a simple conversation, but rather an opportunity for individual and group learning as participants share ideas, assumptions, and experiences.

Interested students must email justin.knoll@cpcc.edu to reserve a space. Students will meet on Central Campus, in the Worrell Building on March 22 at noon, where the group will take the trolley to the Spectrum Center and walk to the Levine Museum.

We will return as a group, and students can expect to be back to Central Campus no later than 3 p.m. Any questions ask justin.knoll@cpcc.edu.

This event is happening Thursday, March 7th in Worrell Gym from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and we want YOU to be ready for the employers as much as they are ready to meet you!

Career Services wants to remind you of 3 keys to making your Career Fair experience awesome:

✔ Dress for Success – Your first impressions are everything, so dress in your very best to let employers know you are serious about your employment. Make sure your hair, nails, breath, and clothes are presentable.

✔ Résumé – Have your professional résumé ready for employers to see your academic accomplishments and relevant work experiences. Employers are looking for a well-rounded student who can both contribute in a team environment and work independently.

✔ Elevator Pitch – You have 30 to 45 seconds to prove to a recruiter that YOU ARE THE BEST FIT! How do you do this? Practice sharing your name, major, relevant experience, and what stands out about you!
