Central Piedmont Art Gallery Scholarship Program 2019-2020
Central Piedmont Community College art galleries are committed to inspiring, educating, and engaging students, faculty, and community members through access to exceptional visual art in all media. The Galleries support the teaching mission of the college by serving as a lab for the visual arts curricula and enriching other program areas of the college.
The Central Piedmont Art Gallery Program is an opportunity for current students at Central Piedmont to volunteer with the Arts Galleries Program to build leadership skills and gain valuable educational experience. Volunteers will learn about the daily operations of art galleries, explore possible careers in art-related fields, and share a passion for visual arts with others.
Opportunities:
– Limited and awarded based on skills and qualification of the applicant.
– Available with the Ross Gallery and the Patty and Bill Gorelick Galleries at Central Piedmont.
– Students are expected to complete 5 to 10 hours a week during the semester.
– Students are expected to commit to both the fall and spring semester.
– Opportunities during the summer term may also be available.
Provided by the Central Piedmont Foundation, a scholarship of $2,000 is available to student volunteers accepted into this program for the 2019-2020 academic year. Please complete an application by August 2.

They are located right around the corner from Central Piedmont’s Central Campus, across from Target (with plenty of parking), and would like to introduce themselves to the surrounding community by offering a FREE HAIRCUT to any first-time customer through June 15.
To receive the free haircut, the individual must present their student or employee ID or name tag. The benefit is not trivial because they are providing the service free of charge, which is a savings of between $17 and $35 depending on the type of haircut requested. Since 1963, Central Piedmont has been an innovative national leader among two-year institutions. College alumni include a Pulitzer Prize winner, a Metropolitan Opera star, an Olympic gold medalist, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, a television actress and a pro football player. Countless others – chefs, healthcare providers, technicians, real estate brokers, paralegals, firefighters, teachers, law enforcement officers, trades people, engineers, artists and others who serve our community – share Central Piedmont’s proud tradition.
On display, visitors will have the opportunity to see how our logo has changed over the years and learn about the stories of our students over nearly a 60 year time span. This exhibition is dedicated to the past, present, and future students of Central Piedmont – where possibility powers everything!

Charlotte Observer: Charlotte’s Streetcar Service will Stop Running for 18 Months

Disruption to Online Learning Intro May 16 and 17
The Online Learning Intro (OLI) will be unavailable from 7 a.m. on May 16 until 7 a.m. on May 17 – it’s unavailability coincides with the Blackboard maintenance outage. Recall that this is a pre-registration requirement for students new to Central Piedmont online courses and students who have been unsuccessful in all previous Central Piedmont online course attempts within the last three years. If you fall into one of these categories and are planning to register during this time frame, please plan to take the OLI sooner. It shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes to complete and can be taken at any time prior to registration. More information about the OLI, including directions on how to access it, can be found on this page.
College’s Summer Business Hours to Begin Next Week
If you need to make an appointment with a Central Piedmont office this summer, please note – in an effort to save on utilities during the hottest time of the year – the college operates on a four-day, 40-hour work week during the summer.
From Monday, May 13 through Sunday, July 21, the college’s hours of operation will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Central Piedmont will be closed Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
We’re here to help with our extended office hours from Monday through Thursday during this time so please make plans to visit us then!

What began 15 months ago with the start of a branding and marketing study — and journeyed through the opinions and ideas of more than 3,000 existing and prospective students, parents, faculty and staff, and community members — culminated today in a college-wide celebration, on all six campuses, as Central Piedmont Community College launched its new branding, which includes a new color palette, logo, and website. Students had fun donning their new tees and celebrating the new logo and website during multiple Student Life events.

What’s in it for me, as a student?
We’re only days away from the launch of the new website (cpcc.edu)! It will include a dedicated “Current Students” section that’s accessible from every page on the site. The purpose of the area is to provide quick links to the content and tools you need to be a Central Piedmont student, such as Blackboard, MyCollege, and student email, plus links to support services and ways to get involved at the college. If we missed a link to information you commonly use, just let us know by emailing the Help Desk at helpdesk@cpcc.edu.
What’s new?
This is not a new surface put on the old website: Central Piedmont teams plowed through the nearly 30,000 pages of content on the current cpcc.edu website and create a thoroughly modern, student-focused way to present the information the site visitors needed to know. The new site is just that: completely new.
The look and feel, functionality, and voice of the new website were created with a lot of input from hundreds of faculty, staff, and students like you… from multiple focus groups, to in-person meetings with Student Government Association (SGA) leaders, to surveys all students could use to give feedback. We are confident we heard what you want, and built a new website that will meet — and exceed — your needs.

Graduating in May? Attend the Graduation Fair on Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1,
in the Central Campus Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
A Herff Jones representative will be on site both days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., to help with your cap and gown purchase.
There will be music, fun, and games from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on both days. Also, you’ll have the chance to take pictures with your friends in their cap and gown at the event’s graduation selfie station.
** All eligible students purchasing their cap and gown on these two days will be eligible to enter a drawing for a chance to win one of four gift bags and the GRAND PRIZE!
NC STEM Alliance: Math Success Clinic

The Barnes & Noble Bookstores at Central Piedmont will have a “buy one get one free” (BOGO) sale on all clearance items on Wednesday, April 24, at all locations. This is a big sale on clearance merchandise with the current Central Piedmont logo before the new college logo and colors launch on April 30.

Attend a FREE Shred Event on May 1, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Central Campus, Overcash Driveway!
Single Stop wants to help you prevent identity theft by offering to securely shred your personal documents- including old tax returns (>3 years old), credit card offers and statements, bank statements, billing statements, legal papers, etc.
Single Stop wants you to be financially successful and this free shred event is one way to help. Please bring all your unneeded personal financial documents to the event! Just drive through the Overcash Driveway. We will have volunteers there to unload your bags or boxes from your vehicle and empty them into the Iron Mountain Mobile Shred Unit bin for onsite shredding.

Affordable Technology On Sale During Science Week 2019
If you are looking for inexpensive refurbished technology, such as a laptop and or a desktop while you are attending Science Week (April 22 – 26), come to the Zeiss Building, Rm. 1102.
The GRID will bring refurbished laptops and desktop systems for purchase. Goodwill created the GRID technology store to provide Charlotte with a central outlet for used technology such as computers, game consoles, software, Raspberry Pi hardware and more. Payment options are limited to VISA, Mastercard and cash. Laptops will be priced between $130 to $200 and Workstations will be priced between $80 to $800. There will be a 30-day option for exchange or repair at The GRID’s discretion. If a return is in order, The GRID will provide credit at The GRID/Goodwill – no cash back. After the warranty, The GRID will offer a lifetime of analysis of any hardware problem at no cost, with modest prices for repairs. The GRID will also bring Raspberry Pi hardware to sell.
Love, Inc., an organization that assists people with services, will be there as well. Love, Inc. is providing refurbished laptops for qualifying Department of Social Services recipients. In other words, if you are currently receiving DSS you can fill out a financial form with Love, Inc. at this event and they will sit down with you to confirm your availability to receive a refurbished laptop. There may be a $35 fee to cover the software on the laptop but that is the only charge. Love, Inc. will have a table where they will discuss requirements one on one. Love, Inc. has formed a network with more than 190 congregations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Many of those churches have completed a “Time and Talent Survey” of their congregations to determine which volunteer services their members are willing to offer to people in need. When a need referral is made to the Love, Inc. office, it is then assigned to a Love, Inc. volunteer who is willing to do that service through one of the Love, Inc. network churches.
