The CPCC Retirees Association was formed at an inaugural meeting on November 7, 2007.
The purposes of the Association are:
- To encourage continuing contact and support between Central Piedmont and CPCC retirees, and to act as a vehicle of communication between retirees and the college community
- To promote volunteer activities at the College, such as assisting with student events, Central Piedmont Foundation events, and other activities
- To keep retirees up-to-date on College events and certain national and state information that may be of interest to the membership
- To socialize with each other
Socializing: A major part of our Association is staying in touch with each other and with Central Piedmont. Examples of our activities – something for everyone:
- Lunch at Central Piedmont’s own Greenway Restaurant
- An annual Christmas holiday luncheon at different venues
- Performances at Halton Theater
- Picnics —
- YMCA Camp Thunderbird
- Blowing Rock home of Tom and Peggy Griffin
- Tours of various kinds —
- Lake Norman tour aboard the Catawba Queen riverboat or “Lady of the Lake” yacht
- Forensic Lab at the Merancas Campus
- One-day tour of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock on a charter bus with Christian Tours
- Mitch Hagler’s beautiful lily gardens
- Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Gastonia
- Wine tastings
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Central Piedmont theater ushers and art gallery docents
- Helping students find their way the first day of classes
- The CPCC Foundation’s annual Sporting Clays Classic, usually in April or early May
- Becoming a student mentor
- Helping with campus food pantries
- Contributing to the Central Piedmont Foundation to support student scholarships and/or emergency funds
The CPCC Retirees Association’s year runs from January 1 through
