Toolin’ Around: The Playlist Feature in Panopto

Welcome to another CTLE “Toolin’ Around”!

What are these posts?

They are brief, easy-to-implement tips involving the tools we use every day with students to make our teaching lives, well, easier (and possibly even more effective).

Toolin’ Around Tip: Panopto, the college’s recording/hosting software for your multimedia content has a great feature when compiling multiple videos together into a playlist. The ability to create and utilize playlists allows you to create one share link (or embed code) that won’t change even if you update/edit the playlist with other videos. This helps streamline your Brightspace course and make it more visually appealing. Watch as the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence’s Faculty Fellow Lindy Hues walks you through this amazing feature to help integrate your playlists into your course.

Benefits?

  • You can easily rearrange and edit all the videos in your playlist.
  • Once the share link/embed code for your playlist is created, the link doesn’t change, allowing you to update the playlist without replacing any links or code in your course!
  • Playlists help consolidate and clean up your layout so you don’t have a long list of videos in your LMS, while keeping each video at a click’s length away.

Toolin’ Around: Brightspace’s Special Access Feature

Welcome to another CTLE “Toolin’ Around”!

What are these posts?

They are brief, easy-to-implement tips involving the tools we use everyday with students to make our teaching lives, well, easier (and possibly even more effective).

Toolin’ Around Tip: Brightspace’s special access feature allows you to set permissions for a set of students to give them a different set of availability dates and times. This feature streamlines your quizzes/assignments so that you do not have to create a new quiz or duplicate the original to allow students special access to it.

Benefits?

  • For example, you could extend the deadline for users who require extra help, or users who are submitting work beyond the original scope of the assignment. You can also add special access after an assignment’s end date has passed for users who have a legitimate excuse for missing the deadline (or just to add extra materials to the assignment).
  • This feature also allows you to have specific availability and due dates for each student in the special access list, so you can adjust the dates to meet the needs of each of your special access users.
