Resource of the Month: Associates Programs Source Plus

Our Resource of the Month can help you with all of that and more! The CPCC Libraries featured resource of the month for November is  Associates Programs Source Plus.  Designed specifically for the research needs of two-year college students, Associates Programs Source Plus covers subjects as wide-ranging as: computer & data processing, CAD, cosmetology, graphic arts, health information technology, interior design, law enforcement & criminal justice, paralegal studies, welding and dozens more equally varied areas of study.

Apply Now for the Library Scholarship!

The Theresa Thompson Library Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for currently enrolled students pursuing a two-year degree at the Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC).   It is made possible through library fundraising projects.  The deadline for submitting an application for the scholarship is November 7, 2014.

To be eligible for the CPCC Library Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a full-time student, currently enrolled in 12 credit hours or more in an approved program leading to a two-year degree.
  • Must have completed at least one full-time semester at CPCC within the past two semesters, excluding the current semester, at the time of application and have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher from CPCC. A copy of your current transcript must be submitted with the application.
  • Submit a completed application with supporting documents.
  • Write an original 550 to 750 word essay on how the CPCC libraries have helped you achieve your educational goals thus far.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a CPCC faculty or staff member that you have known within the last two years.
  • Library employees, including work study students, are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Scholarships are awarded for one academic semester only; previous Theresa Thompson Library Scholarship winners may not reapply.

Resource of the Month: VAST Academic Video Online

The CPCC Libraries featured resource of the month for October is  VAST Academic Video Online.  This extensive resource contains over 22,000 videos covering a wide variety of subjects, including health sciences, social sciences, literature, language, history and art.  It includes newsreels, award-winning documentaries, field recordings, interviews, lectures, training videos, and exclusive primary footage. Students can include these videos from VAST in PowerPoint presentations for class and instructors can embed them in their online courses.

Resource of the Month: Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center

Interested in finding out what the highest paying or most in-demand jobs are?  Have questions about writing cover letters and resumes?  Need information about four year colleges?  CPCC Libraries’ Resource of the Month can help you will all of these things!

Our featured resource of the month for September is Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center.  This comprehensive resource contains authoritative information on a wide number of jobs and career fields.

  • Job Profiles: Information on more than 4,850 jobs and 157 industries, broken down into 16 Career Clusters, is presented through overview articles and videos.
  • Skills: Through informative articles and videos, this section helps users learn the essentials of various skills. Sample résumés and cover letters created by professional career consultants are provided.
  • Resources: Users can search resource entries divided into convenient categories such as financial aid directories, college planning, organizations, internships, scholarships, and much more. School Search is also available.
  • Videos: 290 videos introduce users to a wide variety of jobs, industries, and career development skills.
  • Special Features: “My Life” interviews with professionals give a firsthand perspective on unique jobs such as snowboarding instructor and lobsterman.

It is an ideal resource to assist you with questions that you may have about careers.

Welcome to Fall 2014!

Welcome to the 2014 fall semester!  Hopefully, you had a fantastic summer and are ready to get into the swing of things.  With the beginning of a new semester, we’d just like to take some time to remind you of a few of the services that the library has to offer, as well as highlight a few recent changes.

Books and More!

As always, the library wants to help out with your research and educational needs.  To that end, we provide access to a wide variety of resources, both in print and online.

Need help using either one of these resources?  Don’t be afraid to Ask a Librarian!  Library staff are available to help in person, over the phone or online.

Study Space?  We Have That!

Need a quiet place to study?  All CPCC campus libraries have dedicated quite study spaces.  Additionally, Central, Cato and Levine campuses have study rooms available. (Two of the study rooms at Central recently got amazing facelifts…pictures to come in a future post!)
