Toolin’ Around: Create an EVA Assessment with Release Conditions

Welcome to another CTLE “Toolin’ Around”!

What are these posts?

They are brief, easy-to-implement tips involving the tools we use everyday with students to make our teaching lives, well, easier (and possibly even more effective).

Toolin’ Around Tip: It is important to create a user friendly layout for our course content to make sure our students succeed. The Enrollment Verification Activity (EVA) is a federal requirement to make sure students are officially counted in our courses. All online students must submit an assignment or quiz by a specific date in order to be officially counted in the course. Let’s take a look at creating a proper EVA assessment (quiz or assignment) while also making it as user friendly as possible for our student’s success with Brightspace’s Release Condition feature.

Benefits?

  • Using Brightspace’s Release Condition, we (the instructors) can make sure that students must complete the EVA assessment before they are able to venture into the rest of the course content.
  • The Release Condition helps prevent a scenario where your students may accidentally go directly to their course content (missing the EVA) and end up being removed from the course because they did not complete their Enrollment Verification Activity assessment.
  • The Release Condition feature can be used in many different ways than just the EVA, keep this in mind while you are designing your course!
  • The video playlist showcases both types of EVA assessments (Quiz or Assignment) so you can study how each assessment is created.
