On Saturday, February 22, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) staff and students celebrated National TRIO Day by volunteering at Crisis Assistance Ministry in Charlotte, NC. 💙✨

The TRIO team helped organize the health and beauty sections of the donation store, ensuring local families had access to essential personal care items. This service project reflects TRIO’s commitment to supporting students and uplifting communities.

National TRIO Day 2024

Trio Day volunteerrs On Feb. 24, 2024, TRIO Student Support Services at Central Piedmont Community College marked the 38th anniversary of National TRIO Day. This special occasion was celebrated with a day of service at Nourish Up, previously known as Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays, located in Charlotte.

Participants in the event filled food orders for local food pantries and sorted through donated food items provided by the community. This effort served our neighbors’ immediate needs and highlighted the spirit of giving and collaboration among students.

Congress designated National TRIO Day in 1986 and observes it on the fourth Saturday of February each year. This day recognizes and raises awareness of the TRIO programs, which offer invaluable educational opportunities to students worldwide.

My name is Shania Johnson, and I am a TRIO SSS Scholar. I’ve had the opportunity to build connections with other TRIO SSS scholars, develop my academic and personal goals, and enjoy outings to UNCC and Breakout Charlotte. TRIO SSS provides flexibility, allowing students to choose the activities to participate in while offering virtual opportunities. So what’s stopping you?

You could be eligible for personalized mentoring, tutoring and academic coaching with TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS).

TRIO-SSS is a free program focused on helping you stay in school, and to be successful while you’re here. The program offers academic, personal, social, and career support for under-resourced and first generation college students. If you are the first in your family to attend college, or if you receive financial assistance (like a Pell grant), you could be eligible for this additional support.

Spots are limited! Apply for TRIO-SSS today and a success coach will review your application to see if you are eligible for services.
