There are many ways the Library can provide you with expert help and services remotely. Always check the Library’s website for the latest info about our hours and services.

  • Chat
    The library will operate chat from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Friday, and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday starting on March 23rd.
  • Get Research Help Online
    Need help with research or finding peer reviewed articles? Last minute citation question? Ask us! You can email us, text us, or chat with a librarian from the convenience of your home.
  • Schedule a Consultation with a Librarian
    Subject librarians with expertise in specific areas are available for remote consultations  via phone, email, or online (e.g. Webex).

If you have further questions, we encourage you to reach out to us, either by phone or email.

Celebrate Black History Month with the Library

Black History Month is rapidly approaching! Celebrate it with the Central Piedmont Library’s online exhibit about African Americans and the Vote. Learn about the history of the various Constitutional amendments that made voting possible for African Americans, as well as the history of the observance of Black History Month. The exhibit can be viewed here.

Hotspot Checkouts to End, Learn About Low-Cost Internet Service

Central Piedmont Library will be ending the checkout of hotspots after the end of the fall 2019 semester. Hotspots will be not available after December 11, 2019. Information about low-cost Internet service can be found here: www.lifelinesupport.org. Lifeline is the FCC’s program to help make communications services more affordable for eligible consumers.

Library Experiencing Issues with Research Databases

The Central Piedmont Library is currently experiencing off-campus access issues with a number of our research databases. For information about which databases are known to be impacted, as well as a workaround to access these resources, please visit our status of resources page at https://cpcc.libanswers.com/systems/. Unfortunately, we do not have a timeline for when this issue will be resolved.

Central Campus Library Open, Accessible

Just a reminder, the Central Campus library is now located in the former Advanced Technology Center, bordered by the Citizens Building and Charlottetowne Avenue, at the northeast corner of the main quad. See the college website for a Central Campus map.

You can access the Library easily from the sidewalk along Charlottetowne Avenue. You also can reach the Library from the main quad, just follow the signs around the construction fencing.

Most of the fencing will be down by mid-September, providing a direct route from the quad to the Library.

 

Central Piedmont Library to Host “Black Migrations: A Town Hall Meeting”

In celebration of Black History Month, Central Piedmont Library is sponsoring “Black Migrations: A Town Hall Meeting – Who, Where, When and Why.”

February 19, 2019; 10:30 a.m.  – noon
Central Campus, Library, Room 302

Discussion moderated by Dr. Jennnifer Dixon-McKnight, assistant professor African-American History and United States History at Winthrop University

Black Migrations emphasizes the movement of people of African descent to new destinations and new social realities. This theme focuses especially on the 20th century through today.

The Library is also hosting an exhibition using Jacob Lawrence, Migration Series. The exhibition is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of The Library.

 

Library Move and Other Updates

Welcome to the first day of classes for the spring 2019 semester! There are some important – and exciting – changes happening at the library. The Hagemeyer Learning Resources Center – the old building that housed the Central Campus library – is now closed so the library has moved across the quad to 1241 Charlottetowne Ave., which is beside the curved Citizens Building.

The Learning Resources Center (and Pease Auditorium inside the building) will come down and be replaced by a new, state-of-the art library and student success center for our students. The new facility will also include a replacement of the existing Pease Auditorium and gallery. The new Central Campus library and student success center is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Even in its new location across the quad, the fantastic library team is still here to assist you.

  • Staff available to direct students & provide academic support
  • Computers and printing labs
  • Graphing calculator, laptop, and hotspot checkouts
  • Information Technology Services (ITS) Express services
  • Books & DVDs for checkout

ITS Help Desk Moving on November 12

Map showing library is moving On Monday, November 12, the Central Campus ITS Help Desk will move across the quad to room 100 in the former Advanced Technology Center building (where the Library will temporarily be housed as of Jan. 2019). The building address for the new Help Desk is 1241 Charlottetowne Ave. The new location is accessible to students, faculty, and staff from the quad.
