How do we reach you in a campus emergency?

Safety Moment poster of actions to take in emergencies: call 6911, use the AED, meet emergency personnel and evacuateCampus safety is the top priority of Central Piedmont’s Risk, Safety and Security teams, and we want you to have a safe and successful fall semester. In case of an emergency, it’s important that we are able to alert you, and we also want you to know how to contact us if you see something happening on campus.

Emergency Notifications
For Critical Alert messaging, Central Piedmont uses a mass notification system to send urgent alerts to you via text, phone call, and college email if college operations are ever impacted by inclement weather, a power outage, or a campus emergency. We strongly encourage you to keep your mobile number updated in your MyCollege user profile for emergency communications.
Check and update your contact information here:

Please note you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your Central Piedmont email is the college’s official channel of communication.

Safety & Security Procedures
We also want to remind you of the information available on Central Piedmont’s website about What To Do In An Emergency, for situations including an active shooter, severe weather, fire, and more. We all play a role in safety at the college, so please familiarize yourself with safety and security protocols at the college. In-person classes may begin with a “safety moment” to assign tasks needed in an emergency, such as calling college security, performing CPR/retrieving the AED machine in a medical emergency, and other steps to lead people to safety.

See Something, Say Something
Most importantly, Central Piedmont relies on its students and employees to be the eyes and ears of the college, so if you see or hear something, please say something. If you have a concern of an immediate threat, please call Central Piedmont College Security Services at 704.330.6911.

What if Bad Weather Causes Class Cancellation?

Parr Center in the Winter

When the weather is bad — or if there’s an emergency event on campus — how will YOU find out what to do? Critical Alert is Central Piedmont’s emergency notification program. In case of urgent updates, we can send a text, phone call, and email to the contact details listed on your college account.

Central Piedmont uses a mass notification system to send urgent alerts to you via text, phone call, and email. As of June 1, 2022, we will move to a new tool called Rave Alert to send out our Critical Alert mass notifications. You won’t notice any difference in the way you receive those messages.

This is a great time to make sure the college has all of your up-to-date contact information. That way, you’ll be the first to know if college operations are ever impacted by inclement weather, a power outage, or a campus emergency.

Here’s how to confirm, update, and add your mobile, work, and home phone number(s) – plus your mailing address and any non-Central Piedmont email addresses – for the Critical Alert emergency notification system:

  • Use your college login and password to access your User Profile in MyCollege
    • Please review and edit your current address, email address(es), and phone number(s)
  • Also take a moment to review your Emergency Information in MyCollege regarding whom we should contact if you have (or are involved in) an emergency.

Please note you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your Central Piedmont email is the college’s official channel of communication.

We strongly encourage you to keep your mobile number updated in your MyCollege user profile for emergency communications.

Classroom phone paging system test Wednesday

In an urgent situation, the college can page all phones in classrooms at once, by campus. Please be aware we will test the phone paging system Wednesday (August 25) at 10 a.m.

Take a moment to add or update your mobile phone number and other contact information in our Critical Alert emergency text/phone/email system. It’s important to keep your contact information updated because this is how the college will message you if classes are canceled or impacted due to inclement weather or if there’s an emergency situation. Here’s how:

  • Use your Central Piedmont login and password to access MyCollege
  • Select the person icon for “User Options” on your mobile or desktop screen
  • Select “User Profile”
  • Add or update your mobile number

Please note you cannot opt-out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your college email is the official channel of communication.

We all play a role in safety at the college. If there’s an active shooter on or near a Central Piedmont campus, would you know what to do? It’s incredibly important for students and employees to be prepared. Please take a moment today to review this powerful video to learn about the “Run. Hide. Fight.” concept to help you know what to do if an active shooter is on campus or in a building where you are located.

That “run, hide, fight” video is also included in the college’s required Safety and Security video that we hope you took time to review last week.

Winter is Coming… Does the College Have Your Mobile Number?

Critical Alert! Emergency Notification System

As the season for inclement weather approaches, now is the time to make sure the college has all of your up-to-date contact information, so you’ll be the first to know whether you can get out of class early (or sleep in) if the college closes due to inclement weather.

Here’s how to confirm, update and add your mobile, work, and home phone number(s) – plus any non-Central Piedmont email addresses – to the Critical Alert emergency notification text/phone/email system:

  • Use your Central Piedmont login and password at cpcc.regroup.com. Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner, select “My Profile.”
  • To add text/call information, scroll down to the “PHONE NUMBERS” section and look for the “+ Add New Phone Number” option below any existing phone numbers.
  • To delete an incorrect phone number, select the trash can icon to the right of it.
  • Click “SAVE.”

The college sends communication concerning severe weather closings and other critical incidents via Critical Alert, email, social media, and the Central Piedmont website first before anything is sent to local media. Don’t spend your time waiting for an announcement on TV or radio. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date on Critical Alert now, and simply receive a text and phone call whenever a closure or critical incident occurs.

Please note that you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your Central Piedmont email is the college’s official channel of communication.

Spring Semester Test of the Classroom Phone Paging System

The college-wide phone system in classrooms has the capability to turn each phone handset into a paging speaker. In an urgent situation, the college can page all phones in classrooms at once, by campus. Please be aware that we will test this new phone paging system on Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m.

This is also a great time to take a moment to confirm or update your mobile phone number and other contact information in our Critical Alert emergency text/phone/email system. It’s important to keep your contact info updated, because this is how the college will contact you if classes are cancelled or impacted due to inclement weather or if there’s an emergency situation.

  • Use your Central Piedmont login and password at cpcc.regroup.com.
  • To add text/call information, scroll down to the “PHONE NUMBERS” section and look for the “+ Add New Phone Number” option below any existing phone numbers.
  • To delete an incorrect phone number, select the trash can icon to the right of it.

Please note that you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your college email is the official channel of communication.
