In honor of Veterans Day, Central Piedmont’s Military Family and Veterans Services has organized a Virtual Veterans Day Talk with Pulitzer Prize winner, Glenn Proctor. Proctor is a certified professional life coach and founder of REDDjobb, a Charlotte-based firm focusing on crisis communications, marketing, public relations, women’s leadership, and mental health. He is also a volunteer instructor with Atrium Health and Mental Health America of Central Carolinas. Proctor will share strategy on persevering toward educational goals and staying the course in the face of challenges and during a global pandemic.

Lessen The Financial Burden with Scholarships and Grants

Need-based and merit-based scholarships are awarded for a host of reasons – choice of major, community involvement, special interests, creative talents – and that’s just to name a few. Regardless of your economic situation, take every opportunity to lessen the financial burden of college.
Central Piedmont has over 250 scholarship opportunities available each year. Students can access a number of these opportunities by completing the General Scholarship Application on Academic Works for spring. The Spring 2021 application deadline is November 30, 2020.
*Students who complete the application will automatically be considered for all auto-match scholarship opportunities. Certain opportunities may require supplemental information (i.e. transcripts, essays, letters of recommendation, etc.).

Finishline Grant

The Finish Line Grant is designed to assist you in addressing financial situations that would prevent you from continuing or completing your program of study or credential. If you are facing a financial hardship, you may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 to cover eligible expenses per semester. This is not a monetary award — funds will be paid to the vendor directly to cover your expense. If eligible, you can receive the grant a maximum of two semesters.

 Application Steps:

To apply for the Finish Line Grant, log in to MyCollege, select “Student Services,” then “Online Forms.”

Here is the information to apply for our student emergency grants/ student relief grant:

Eligible students are allowed to apply for The Student Relief Grant (CARES Act) funds through their my college account. The grant is for students with expenses that can be related to COVID (ex: loss of income, can’t pay bills, need technology for class, tuition, etc.). Students can upload their expenses (take a picture and attach it to the application) and the team will make a determination on how much to award you. This is a direct cash payment to you. Funds through this grant are dispersed to your Bank Mobile account.

*   On the bottom right hand side click on Central Piedmont Student Relief Grant

Student Emergency Grant:

Students can also apply for the Student Emergency Grant, that grant will pay up to $500 of expenses. This grant however pays the expenses directly for you, this is not a cash grant. So for example, if you need help paying your Duke Power bill we will pay that on your behalf.

Need a Chromebook or Mobile Hotspot for Spring?

We want to do all we can to ensure you continue in your classes and achieve your academic goals.

If you are having trouble accessing technology, a limited number of laptops and WiFi hotspots are available for loan — at no cost. You will be able to use these devices as long as you are enrolled in classes and until we are able to resume traditional, in-person classes.

In 2020, you have the opportunity to vote for the next president of the U.S., who will represent you for North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, the next NC governor, lieutenant governor, and other important NC leadership positions. Exercise your right to vote!

Do you need a ride to the polls?  A limited number of $25 Uber gift codes are available students who need transportation to get to the polls to vote. Gift cards will be sent to you via your Central Piedmont student email. We will send E-Gift Cards to the first 150 students who fill out this form!

Speak Out – Take the Central Piedmont Basic Needs Survey

That is why we are conducting a survey to learn more about the real issues faced by community college students related to basic needs – food, housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare, technology, and more. 

We’ll use this information to improve our support services so all students can be successful.

Open Enrollment for Healthcare Navigation

Health insurance navigation, offered by the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy through Single Stop, is a service that helps families and individuals choose plans that are best for them within the health insurance marketplace implemented under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Take advantage of the opportunity to schedule appointments with a Navigator to receive assistance in applying for health insurance plans, as well as help enrolling in other federal and state healthcare programs, such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Here’s how you can schedule an appointment:

Advisory: Gov. Cooper extends Phase 3 until at least Nov. 13

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced earlier today (Oct. 21) Phase Three of statewide coronavirus restrictions will remain in effect until at least Nov. 13.

In Phase 3, which began Oct. 2, bars, entertainment venues, movie theaters and large outdoor venues were allowed to reopen with capacity restrictions. Capacity limits remained in place for restaurants, and mass gatherings were limited as well – 25 for indoors and 50 for outdoors.

Central Piedmont is offering courses in multiple formats — online, hybrid, blended, and face-to-face. (Hybrid and blended courses include both online and some face-to-face instruction.)

For students who attend classes on campus, please read the Student Guide to Returning to Campuscarefully. It is important you continue to follow all of the safety practices detailed in the guide. These include wearing a face covering, keeping a social distance from others, washing your hands frequently, self-monitoring for possible COVID-19 symptoms, and staying home if you feel ill at all.

Employees are encouraged to read the Guide for Returning to Campus to learn how to best keep themselves, their teammates and students as healthy and safe as possible.

Registration for the spring 2021 semester begins Nov. 9. A complete listing of spring 2021 classes, including details such as section, prerequisites, course descriptions, etc., are now available through Student Planning. Log into MyCollege to plan your class schedule. When it is the date/time of your priority registration, select “Register Now” to complete the registration process.

In addition, registration for Corporate and Continuing Education courses is ongoing.

Spring 2021 Parking Decals Not Required for Spring Semester

In consideration of COVID-19, students are not required to display a Spring 2021 parking decal for the duration of the spring term. Tickets will not be issued to students who must return to campus for in-person instruction during this time.

Log into MyCollege to plan your class schedule. When it is the date/time of your priority registration, click on “Register Now” to complete the registration process.

If you need a job now, you may have visited big job boards like Career Builder and Indeed. But in tight times, it’s a good idea to check other, lesser utilized resources as well. The October Job Search Challenge will focus on two job search tools offered at Central Piedmont and give you a chance to explore them.

  • Central Piedmont Online Job Board– Charlotte area employers post jobs on this board specifically for Central Piedmont students and graduates. Check it out at: www.cpcc.edu/jobboard. New jobs are posted on a regular basis!
  • Career Coach– This website is a career information tool and highlights Central Piedmont programs, but also has some great information about area employers and the skills they are looking for. Check it out at: www.cpcc.edu/careercoach.

Join the Next Mindfulness Workshop on October 15

Have you been looking for a way to cope with the daily stressors of being a student? Join Counseling Services for online sessions to learn how to manage stress with mindfulness. Research shows that practicing mindfulness is beneficial in many areas, including:

  • better sleep
  • lower stress levels
  • improved attention
  • dealing with depression and anxiety

Through practice and discussion, learn to strengthen your ability to “begin again” in the present moment. Whether you are brand new to mindfulness or have been practicing for years, these sessions are for you. Designed specifically for students, each session focuses on a different area of mindfulness practice. Attend one or all sessions.

All sessions are on Thursday from 10:30–11:30 a.m.

Central Piedmont Food Share Event on Harris Campus

Central Piedmont is hosting a food share event on Friday, November 13, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., on Harris Campus.

During the event, members of our community can get access to FREE food. The best part is, you don’t even have to leave your car, because it’s a drive-thru event.

Advance registration is required. 

We are offering Halal and vegetarian option boxes upon request through the registration process. This event has been made possible by the Building Bridges Grant through the Interfaith Youth Core and our collaboration with Loaves & Fishes. The purpose of the grant and this event is to build bridges of understanding in the concept of religiouis pluralism while responding to the COVID-19 and food insecurity pandemics.
