Emergency Notifications
For Critical Alert messaging, Central Piedmont uses Rave, a mass notification system, to send urgent alerts to you via text, phone call, and college email if college operations are ever impacted by inclement weather, a power outage, or a campus emergency. We strongly encourage you to keep your mobile number updated in your MyCollege user profile for emergency communications.

Please note you cannot opt out of Critical Alert notification emails to your Central Piedmont account because your Central Piedmont email is the college’s official channel of communication.

Safety & Security Procedures
We also want to remind you of the information available on Central Piedmont’s website about What To Do In An Emergency, for situations including an active shooter, severe weather, fire, and more. We all play a role in safety at the college, so please familiarize yourself with safety and security protocols at the college. In-person classes may begin with a “safety moment” to assign tasks needed in an emergency, such as calling college security, performing CPR/retrieving the AED machine in a medical emergency, and other steps to lead people to safety.

Watch Out for Vehicles and Pedestrians
For your safety, when crossing streets, please use designated crosswalks, and use crosswalk buttons to activate available flashing lights. When driving around our campuses, watch out for pedestrians and people riding bikes and scooters. Also, be sure to use the college’s parking lots and parking decks for student drop-offs and pick-ups. Please do not park on or block city streets.

Congrats to the newest Opportunity Scholars

Congratulations to the newest class of Opportunity Scholars. This group of students is awarded a full scholarship– tuition, fees, and books– for two years of study at Central Piedmont, as well as a chromebook.

Students who are selected for the Opportunity Scholarship first attend the Summer Bridge program. Recipients of this full scholarship participate in service projects and other activities as a group, and also receive one-on-one support from an academic coach.

Summer 2023 Dean’s and President’s Lists

Congratulations to all the students who made the latest President’s and Dean’s lists.

These students made the lists based on their grades from summer 2023 classes, and took at least 12 credit hours of college-level classes with no Incomplete (“I”) or Withdraw (“W”) grades. They are placed on either the DSummer 2023 President's List and Dena's List Available nowean’s list or President’s list based on their grade point average (GPA) for the semester.

Summer 2023 Dean’s List students have achieved a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Summer 2023 President’s List students have achieved a 4.0 GPA for the semester.

Catalyst Coffee Bar is open at Cato, Central and Levine Campuses, from 7:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. They offer a selection of beverages and grab-and-go food items.

Beach & Borough Sandwich Shop is open at Central and Levine Campuses 10:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.

For all locations, you can save time if you order ahead and pay through your account with the Connect & Pay app. Our food service is cashless, so vouchers are also available at the Cashiering Business office in $5 and $10 increments if you only have cash.

The Harris, Harper and Merancas Campus Catalyst Coffee Bar locations will be opening later in fall 2023. All Central Piedmont Campuses also have microwaves and vending options.

Get help at Information Tables

Information Tables will be available on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 14-15, from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., and on Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 5-6 p.m.

Borrow a Chromebook from the Library

Student types on a chromebook.Set yourself up for success! Central Piedmont’s Library has chromebooks you can borrow, for a few hours, or a semester. Limited quantities are available at each campus.
Graphing calculators may also available for check-out, for up to four hours.

You will be able to borrow equipment based on availability of items, and your previous equipment check-out status. Please bring your student ID card.

Student Wins Scholarship for Nursing Exam

Mariam Idris, a nursing student and active Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) member at Central Piedmont Community College, has been announced as a recipient of the prestigious Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarship.

Mariam is among the twelve exceptional students from across the nation who have been honored with this scholarship through Phi Theta Kappa international honor society.

The Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarship, generously funded by Hurst Review Services, a prominent exam preparation company, is designed to support nursing majors affiliated with Phi Theta Kappa preparing to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®). As part of this scholarship, Mariam will receive comprehensive NCLEX® study materials and a cash award that covers the expenses associated with the NCLEX® exam fees.

Looking for the CAT building at Central Campus?

Student works at a pottery wheel.Many of our arts classes at Central Campus are held in the Center for Arts Technology (CAT) building– with pottery and jewelry studios, and lots of specialized space for photography, 2D and 3D art, painting, and more.

Construction continues at the CAT building, however, all classrooms in the building are open for use. Parking Lot 15 at the rear of the building will remain closed until construction is completed later this year. We can’t wait to see what art you will create in your classes!

Crosswalk Work Impacts Elizabeth Ave. Aug. 7-11

Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) will re-stripe a number of street crosswalks on Central Campus the week of Aug. 7-11. This will require at times the complete closure of Elizabeth Avenue to vehicular traffic. During other times, lanes will be closed along Elizabeth Avenue.

From Aug. 7-9, from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., each evening, Elizabeth Avenue, from N. Kings Drive to Charlottetowne Avenue, will be closed to vehicular traffic.

From Aug. 8-11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day, CDOT will need to close lanes on Elizabeth Avenue to complete the re-striping. This will cause traffic delays.

If you are coming to Central Campus the week of Aug. 7-11, you should avoid driving on Elizabeth Avenue. Traffic congestion is likely. CDOT has said the CityLynx Gold Line will NOT be affected.

Psi Beta Chapter Excellence Award

Psi Beta the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges. Psi Beta, the national honor society for psychology for community colleges, has awarded Central Piedmont’s chapter with the “Chapter Excellence Award” for the 2022-23 school year.

Our chapter was recognized for their activities in service, research, leadership, and scholarship. According to the Psi Beta National Council, few chapters achieve this level of excellence.

To join the larger organization as a member and serve as a club officer, there are GPA and course completion requirements. To join us casually, you only need to have passed a General Psychology course and be interested in psychology. Students who are interested in joining Psi Beta can contact advisor Deninne Pritchett at deninne.pritchett@cpcc.edu.

Free Shakespeare Performances July 14-16

If you’ve never been able to understand a word of Shakespeare, let the Central Piedmont Drama Club be your translators! Modern scenes play hand in hand with the original text, making the sonnets come alive!

“Will and Whimsy: Sixteen Dramatically Illustrated Sonnets of Shakespeare” is free to attend and appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Performances will take place at Central Campus in the Parr Center’s New Theater on:

  • July 14 & 15 at 7:30 p.m.
  • July 16 at 2:30 p.m.

Registration and Payment systems closed June 28-July 1

Due to regular year-end processing, the college’s registration and payment systems will close Wednesday, June 28 at 9 p.m., and re-open on Saturday, July 1 at 7 a.m.

Don’t wait! Finish your registration now. Fall registration is already open – you can still register for classes online before and after the temporary closure next week.

You will not be able to register or pay for classes during those days, BUT you can still prepare for the fall semester by:

Volunteer for Patient Simulation for Healthcare Students

Student in EMT program takes the blood pressure of a medical mannequin.Health Professions and Human Services is launching a Standardized Participant (SP) program, and we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers from Central Piedmont to participate and contribute to this invaluable initiative.

Standardized participants are individuals trained to portray various roles, such as patient and family members, in specific medical scenarios and patient cases for the purpose of teaching and evaluating healthcare students. By volunteering as a standardized participant, you will play an essential role in training our health profession students to enhance their communication skills, clinical examinations, and overall patient care abilities. As an SP, you will have the opportunity to simulate diverse clinical encounters, providing our students with realistic scenarios to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment.

Participating in our SP program not only benefits our Health Professions and Human Services students, but it also offers tremendous personal and professional growth opportunities for you. You will gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare field, develop empathy and effective communication skills, and contribute to the education of future healthcare providers.

Simulations will take place at Central Campus. Our goal is to recruit and train of a pool of potential volunteers that we can pull from, and you will be able to volunteer for days/times that work for your schedule. We are seeking a wide range of diversity for our simulations, so all ages, and demographics are encouraged to volunteer.
