Tasty TraditionsDear Students,

The Central Piedmont Baking and Pastry Arts department is very excited to welcome you to our pop-up meal service and bakehouse, which are available on Harris Campus! Our “Tasty Traditions” business is not just about food but our students’ heritage and traditions, shown through our love of pastry and culinary. We will offer daily pre-fixe meals available via pre-order Monday-Thursday with pick-up times from 10am-1:30pm. Additionally, students and staff on the City View campus are eligible for meal delivery daily at 12:00pm Monday-Thursday, so you can receive your items without leaving the area during your busy schedules. We will also have an end-of-week bake sale for pre-orders each Thursday. Limited a la carte meals and treats will be available daily at Harris Campus!

From Piano Prodigy to Future Radio Star: Will Thames’ Inspirational Journey Shines Bright”

Will ThamesWill Thames, a 22-year-old from Charlotte, NC, shares his inspiring journey at Central Piedmont!⭐ Will highlights his aspirations and the role Central Piedmont has played in his educational and personal growth. As a Myers Park High School graduate, Will chose Central Piedmont to pave his path toward a future in radio broadcasting and music, drawn by the college’s diverse course offerings and the prospect of transferring to Appalachian State University.

Will’s passion for music, particularly piano, has been a guiding light in his life since the age of 5. Inspired by legends like Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles, he dreams of carving out a career in radio broadcasting and becoming a professional musician. “What I want to do with my degree is pursue a career in radio broadcasting,” Will shares.🎹

Despite not yet being involved in clubs or organizations at Central Piedmont, Will’s dedication to his studies and music speaks volumes. His advice to future students is profound yet simple: “Come with an open mind and to learn new and exciting things. It will go a long way toward your future.” He believes firmly that the foundation for a bright future starts with the opportunities grasped today.😃

Central Piedmont and Lees-McRae College Forge Path with New ‘Guaranteed Admission Program’ 🎓

Central Piedmont Community College, in a significant move to enhance higher education pathways, has partnered with Lees-McRae College to establish the ‘Guaranteed Admission Program’ (GAP). This landmark agreement, signed on Apr. 9, 2024, promises Central Piedmont students a seamless transfer to Lees-McRae College, paving the way for attaining bachelor’s degrees and beyond.

  • Automatic Admission: Central Piedmont students who earn an Associate of Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, or Associate in Fine Arts degree and meet specific GPA requirements will be automatically admitted to Lees-McRae College.
  • Merit Scholarships: Eligible students can receive merit scholarships covering up to 50% of Lees-McRae’s annual tuition, making higher education more accessible.
  • Signing Ceremony: The agreement was ratified during a ceremony at Central Piedmont’s Central Campus in Charlotte, attended by Dr. Lee King, President of Lees-McRae College, Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, President of Central Piedmont, and other distinguished leaders from both institutions.

Sarah Blair – Embracing a Passion for Art

Sarah BlairSarah Blair, a student from Valencia, California, found their calling in Simulation and Game Development at Central Piedmont.🕹️ After high school, faced with mental health challenges, Sarah chose Central Piedmont for its local, supportive environment. Their journey wasn’t smooth, but Sarah was determined to return to college in 2020 to seek a community to help her find her way.

Transitioning from a potential veterinary career to embracing a passion for art and technology, Sarah is now the President of Diversity in Games. She is engaged in clubs like IGDA Academic and Delta Alpha Pi, showcasing leadership and advocacy for inclusivity in gaming.🤩 “I knew I loved video games and animation,” Sarah says, “and when I heard about the SGD department, I was hooked!”

Facing adversity, including time in a community shelter, Sarah found resilience and hope in their studies. “Being a student at Central Piedmont was my hope for a better future,” they share, highlighting the role education played in their recovery and self-discovery.⭐

With aspirations to work in game writing and 3D modeling, Sarah aims to challenge industry norms and advocate for mental health awareness and disability rights. “I want to push social standards for people like me,” they assert! 🧠 🎮

Sarah’s advice to future students is poignant: “Central Piedmont has so much to offer, but you have to seek it out. Don’t be afraid to try new things.” Besides academics, Sarah pursues hobbies like language learning and embroidery, enriching their skill set and preparing for a multifaceted career.💫

About Matthew Whitaker

  • Prodigy Turned Professional: Born in 2001 in Hackensack, NJ, Matthew Whitaker has dazzled the world with his musical prowess from a young age. At just 15, he became the youngest musician, named a Yamaha Artist, and joined an elite group of jazz pianists.
  • Educated in Excellence: Whitaker’s foundation in music is solid, having studied classical piano and drums at The Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School in NYC. His education continued at The Harlem School of the Arts and through participation in the Jazz House Big Band and the Organ Messengers at Jazz House Kids in Montclair, NJ.
  • A Juilliard Graduate: His commitment to his craft led him to graduate from the BA Jazz Studies program at Juilliard in New York City in May 2023, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career.
