The Digital Literacy Learning Space provides student-centered technology training and digital literacy assessments to help you develop essential technology skills. We offer individual and group technology training appointments to discuss, review, and resolve your immediate needs.
Training sessions are offered face-to-face at each of our six campus libraries and online, using WebEx or Google Meet. Make an appointment on the Library appointment site.
Curious about your searching your family history, but you are unsure where to start?
Central Piedmont Libraries will host a Genealogy Research Workshop in-person on Thursday, February 9 from 1- 2 p.m. The workshops will be held in the Parr Center at Central Campus, Hagemeyer Library, Room 3220.
Join us for a fun, hands-on session where we will teach you genealogy research tips and tricks. Registration is not required and the event is free to attend. We hope to see you there!

October is Archives Month! Every year, the Society of American Archivists (SAA) initiates a month-long celebration in October, highlighting a variety of archives and archivists throughout the United States and encouraging people to explore historical records at their local institutions.
There are multiple ways to celebrate Archives Month at Central Piedmont:
The Central Piedmont Archives identifies, collects, and preserves materials that relate to the history of Central Piedmont as well as its purpose, mission, and vision in the Charlotte metropolitan region. Our collections are available to Central Piedmont faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public for research, as well as instruction and programming opportunities. In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Central Piedmont invites you to attend “We Are Resilient,” a panel discussion on the signs and dynamics of power and control in relationships.
This program is being presented in a hybrid format in partnership with Central Piedmont Library, Office of Institutional Equity, Student Engagement, Mecklenburg County Community Support Services (CSS), and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event either virtually or in person.

Cato Campus is proud to announce that the library will be hosting the Booktastic Reading Group for students and employees.
Meeting times for fall are: Oct. 26, Nov. 16 and Dec. 7. Participants will meet in Cato III, Room 315 on meeting dates to discuss the book chosen for each month. You can help choose the next book to read and discuss by completing the Book Choice form.

The Library recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct 15) and Banned Books Week (Sept. 18-24). Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates all Hispanic cultures, traditions, and individuals. Read more in the Library Lib Guide about Hispanic Heritage Month.
Banned Books Week is dedicated to the books who gave their pages and binding to be put up to show that the Freedom to Read is an honorable right. Learn more about banned books in the topic guide.
Prior to a panel discussion on The Freedom to Read and to increase awareness about banned books, Cheryl Coyle, Senior Librarian -Levine Campus Library manager, coordinated a surprise Flash Reading of And Tango Makes Three at Levine and Central Campus dressed in costume.
Looking for a challenge? Test your knowledge by playing Harry Potter Banned Book Trivia. These games created in Kahoot! by librarian Cheryl Coyle will be available to play until Sept. 28.
Quiet Rooms assist all Central Piedmont students, faculty, and staff with individual space for physical and mental health support activities away from open work and study environments.
The quiet rooms provide space for lactation, quiet contemplation, to de-stress, reflect, or participate in wellness activities. Consider using these spaces for: meditation, yoga, prayer, stretching exercises, relaxation breaks, breathing exercises, and/or mindfulness activities.

Although the doors to the Parr Center — home of your first-ever Student Union, Hagemeyer Library, dining services, and much more — opened in July, the college threw a big party in its honor this week. View the recording of the event livestream.

The building is named for two incredibly generous college donors, Wilton L. and Mary W. Parr. The college celebrated the Parr family and also thanked the many Central Piedmont employees and students who partnered with architects and builders to create this one-of-a-kind facility that’s designed just for you, our students.
Local elected leaders such as Mecklenburg County Commission Chairman George Dunlap and Mayor Vi Lyles spoke at the dedication event to show their excitement and support for what the new Parr Center means for our students, and for this entire community.

The Central Piedmont library is pleased to announce that all current students will be able to check-out library hotspots and Chromebooks starting August 8, 2022. These will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. We will not be able to hold them in advance.
