💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Key Statistics:

  • 1 in 6 college women (16%) has been sexually abused in a dating relationship.
  • 1 in 5 college women has been verbally abused by a dating partner.
  • 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the U.S. have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner.
  • Over 54% of trans and non-binary people have experienced Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in their lifetime.

Counseling on the GreenIn light of the recent events surrounding Hurricane Helene, Counseling Services wants to remind you that your well-being is top priority. Coping with the aftermath of a natural disaster can be overwhelming, so here are some practical ways to navigate this challenging time:

  1. Limit Media Consumption: Constant news updates can heighten anxiety. Consider setting specific times to check the news and focus on trusted sources.
  2. Reach Out: Connect with family and friends. Sharing your feelings and experiences can provide comfort and strengthen your support network.
  3. Focus on What You Can Control: In uncertain times, directing your energy towards manageable tasks can help reduce feelings of helplessness.
  4. Accept Change: Understand that recovery takes time, and it’s okay to feel a range of emotions as things evolve.
  5. Support Your Neighbors: If you’re able, find safe and tangible ways to assist those affected in Western NC. Every little bit helps!
  6. Ask for Help: Remember, our counseling services are here for you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

Available Counseling Services:

  • 🖥️ Remote Therapy Sessions: Offering video appointments for flexible scheduling and easier access. Often, these can be scheduled sooner due to the high demand for specific time slots.
