More from Blur

Here are a few more behind the scenes photos from Blur: A Community Portrait Project. We enjoyed letting Ms. Alexander turn our back room in the Ross Gallery into a photo studio.

Our Holiday Art Market is up and running! We have some beautiful items for sale this year. If you don’t know, every year we invite our students along with some art faculty to sell their handmade crafts in our gallery. From jewelry to ceramics we have a little bit of everything. Market hours are Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. We are also open for this coming weekend’s performances.

The Holiday Art Market Reception will be held Wednesday November 6, 5-7 p.m. in the Overcash Art Gallery.

Our CP Community

Atlanta-based photographer Melissa Alexander uses her camera to create a space of respite and self-rediscovery, Ross Art Gallery, August 27th, 2019

Our community at Central Piedmont Community College is a diverse and wonderful thing. Melissa Alexander has worked hard these last few months capturing the different faces that can be found in our college. If you haven’t been by the Gallery recently stop by soon! It will be our pleasure to share with you the faces of our student body and tell you about Ms. Alexander’s process in creating this photographic exhibition. Additionally, we invited guest curator Jonell Logan, to curate the show for us.

We are Open!

If you passed by our Art Galleries recently and noticed two empty spaces, have no fear because those empty spaces have been filled! Today we opened with two new shows. In the Ross Gallery we are exhibiting Blur: A Community Portrait Project featuring Atlanta based photographer Melissa Alexander along with guest curator Jonell Logan. Ms Alexander’s artist lecture and reception will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 4:30 p.m. in Bryant Hall with a reception following at 5:30 p.m. in the Ross Gallery.

In the Overcash Gallery we have opened our annual Holiday Art Market. All items are for sale and nothing is priced higher than $50. All art is handmade by our student body and faculty and we have some beautiful items for sale! The opening reception for the Holiday Art Market is November 6 from 5-7 p.m. in the Art Galleries.

Final Artist Lecture on Monday!

If you missed our first two artist lectures for Shift, do not worry because we have one more left! We will have the pleasure of listening to Amanda Foshag this Monday at 3 p.m. She will be speaking on Central Campus in Tate Hall in the Overcash Center. This talented lady will be sharing about her process as a fiber artist. If you have seen her work in the Art Galleries, then you already know that she employs intricate weaving and knotting techniques (and so much more) into her art. We hope to see you all there!

Artist Lecture Tomorrow!

If you are one of the many people who have visited the Art Gallery and were curious about the artworks above, then you definitely do not want to miss Heather Lewis’ artist lecture! She will be speaking tomorrow September 26 at 10 a.m. in Tate Hall, which is located in Overcash Center. Her work touches on the themes of loss and grief, but inspires hope at the same time. We will look forward to seeing you there!

Reuben Bloom’s Artist Lecture

Would you like to know what is going on in this photograph? What could be the inspiration and the story behind it? Come to Reuben’s artist lecture this Thursday, September 19 at 12:30 p.m. in Tate Hall, Overcash Center. Reuben will discuss his photography currently on display in the Art Galleries.

Art and Art Therapy

Meet Heather Lewis, another talented artist from the Shift exhibition. Heather has used a tragedy from her own life as inspiration for her art. Through the process of using art as art therapy she was able to find a way to cope. Her work is touching and thought provoking and a real tribute to the life of someone she loved. Many of our gallery visitors have connected strongly with her work and the story behind it.

Heather will also have an artist lecture Thursday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Tate Hall.
