CP Student Show at Novant

Back in February, our very own CP Visual Art Club students organized, curated and installed a large exhibition at Novant Health’s new medical center in South Park. This partnership with Novant enabled CP students to discover what it is like to be in charge of an exhibition. The nearly 100 piece show hangs on the first through fourth floors of the building, in busy hallways and clinic spaces. The artwork consists of different mediums ranging from 2D works to 3D ceramics and sculptures. Many of the pieces are available for purchase.

This exhibition is open to the public during business hours. The medical center asks those wishing to visit to kindly wear a mask. Bear in mind that some of the artwork is in clinic spaces. The location is easily accessible and located across the street from South Park Mall 6324 Fairview Road, Charlote, NC.

Meet Maryam

“I like weird stuff, I’m often motivated to create work based on my own mental state, using art as an outlet. I’m inspired by bright colors and interesting mark making, as well as concepts of self- exploration and dissociation.”

Meet Maryam, one of our student artists in this year’s 2020 Annual Juried Student Art Show. Maryam’s piece “I Don’t Want to Paint Today” illustrates her artistic process. The 24” x 24” oil on canvas painting echoes her words in the bright colors, style and technique. CP’s affordable tuition and wide selection of art classes helps Maryam find her path as an artist. While Maryam enjoys experimenting with a variety of different mediums, she mostly enjoys painting and ceramics.

Maryam von Briesen “I Don’t Want to Paint Today”, 24″ x 24″, Oil on canvas, currently on display in the Ross Gallery.

Maryam is an active member of the Visual Arts Club at CP. Earlier this year, she served as the main curator of an exhibition (organized by the Art Club) at Novant Health South Park featuring CP student and faculty artwork. This large 100-piece exhibition features on four floors of the medical building and will remain on display through Fall 2020.

Alice Ballard’s Studio

Here are a few behind the scenes shots of Alice Ballard’s beautiful studio. It is a space filled with natural light, illuminating finished projects and works in progress. Floor to ceiling windows minimize the divide between the indoors and outdoors contributing to a sense of peace and calmness that is a major part of Ballard’s work.

CP Art Galleries Presents

Central Piedmont Community College Art Galleries are proud to present two new exhibitions! Here are some sneak peaks into what is truly two amazing shows.

In the Ross Gallery we have the 2020 Annual Juried Student Art Show, a much anticipated exhibition we host every year featuring our talented students. Including all disciplines of art from photography to sculpture and everything in between there is always something to delight every visitor.

In the Overcash Gallery we are extremely excited to host an exhibition by Alice Ballard, Harmony With an Edge. Ballard uses her creative mind and talents to craft intricate earthenware sculptures. Each piece in its shape and color palette points us to nature helping us reconnect with the natural world around us. To see more from Alice Ballard, check out her website aliceballard.com

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, neither of these exhibitions is currently open to the public. As artists and creative types, we find art to be healing and therapeutic no matter what state of chaos the world is in. The show will go on. Please stay tuned for a virtual exhibition of each show! Also, be sure to check out our instagram and facebook sites for new pictures and updates.
