CPCC Galleries is thrilled to host the annual Airy Knoll Farm Show again this year. Above is a picture of the exhibition as we finished installing.
Titled, “Seeing… Observations from Nature,” the exhibition contains work by students of the Airy Knoll Farm in Middlesburg, VA, and focuses on capturing the contemplative nature one must embrace as a member of the class. Long time CPCC Instructor Elizabeth Ross encourages her students to open their minds to a more subjective way of seeing and appreciating the world.
The work on view includes paintings, works on paper, collage, and sculpture. All work is for sale.
On view through January 3
Opening Reception and performance November 22 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Zachary Tate Porter’s work is currently on view in Pease Gallery and, as of last week, in the third issue of Better Magazine. The semi-annual publication focuses on culture and literature, featuring articles, interviews, essays, artwork, stories, poems, and reviews by (and about) some of the best creative-types in the world today. All of the published work is hanging in the gallery right now.

…or join us for Zachary’s lecture this Thursday, October 17, in Pease auditorium at noon.
Zachary Tate Porter’s first solo exhibition, Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations, and Burials, opened on Monday and is on view through November 1. A trained architect, this talented young artist has created a body of work related to the intersection of humanity and ground. In paintings and collages coated with resin, large canvases, and small wooden boxes housing artifacts, Porter portrays mappings and investigations of imagined landscapes with finesse.
Learn more about Porter’s work and career at his artist lecture on October 17 in Pease Auditorium at noon.
CPCC Galleries stopped by Zachary Tate Porter’s Mint Hill studio this week to see work in progress for his upcoming show Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations and Burials (opening 9/16).
The paintings below are done on board and coated with resin, sometimes polished to a velvety finish. Atop painted grounds, Porter uses elements of collage and drawing to enhance the work.
The last pictures show Porter’s in-progress assemblages, wooden boxes with strong narrative quality containing artifacts of industry and nature.
The opening reception for Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations, and Burials is on Monday, September 16 in Pease Gallery. Porter will give an artist lecture in Pease Auditorium on Thursday, October 17 at 12 pm and at UNCC’s Hight Architecture Library on Friday, October 18 at 12:30 pm.
CPCC Pease Gallery will host a solo show of work by Zachary Tate Porter titled, “Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations and Burials” September 16 -November 1, 2013.
Porter is currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Architecture at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. His work draws upon his architectural education, as well as influences from other fields such as archaeology and cartography. Characterized by their use of topographic surveys, textual fragments and found artifacts, Porter’s drawings and models construct complex narratives that connect the viewer to imaginative landscapes. These landscapes, which often serve as sites for sacred events such as excavations, burials and outdoor sermons, confront questions of figure and ground, and ritual and place.
Opening Reception: September 16, 5-7 pm
Artist Lecture: October 17, 12 pm in Pease Auditorium (adjacent to Pease Gallery)
