If you missed our first two artist lectures for Shift, do not worry because we have one more left! We will have the pleasure of listening to Amanda Foshag this Monday at 3 p.m. She will be speaking on Central Campus in Tate Hall in the Overcash Center. This talented lady will be sharing about her process as a fiber artist. If you have seen her work in the Art Galleries, then you already know that she employs intricate weaving and knotting techniques (and so much more) into her art. We hope to see you all there!

Artist Lecture Tomorrow!
If you are one of the many people who have visited the Art Gallery and were curious about the artworks above, then you definitely do not want to miss Heather Lewis’ artist lecture! She will be speaking tomorrow September 26 at 10 a.m. in Tate Hall, which is located in Overcash Center. Her work touches on the themes of loss and grief, but inspires hope at the same time. We will look forward to seeing you there!
Reuben Bloom’s Artist Lecture
Art and Art Therapy
Meet Heather Lewis, another talented artist from the Shift exhibition. Heather has used a tragedy from her own life as inspiration for her art. Through the process of using art as art therapy she was able to find a way to cope. Her work is touching and thought provoking and a real tribute to the life of someone she loved. Many of our gallery visitors have connected strongly with her work and the story behind it.
Heather will also have an artist lecture Thursday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Tate Hall.

Out and Around Town
Reuben Bloom is one of our currently exhibiting artists in the Shift exhibition. His photography has sparked a lot of interest. Reuben’s creative compositions and subject matter have been a source of fascinating discourse. Here are a few shots of Reuben at work. Reuben’s creative process, he says, is to take his camera and walk around town (especially areas undergoing new development) looking for interesting items to photograph. This can be anything from a piece of plastic caught on a fence to an Independence sign stuffed into a shopping cart. There is a lot going on in his mind while he is working. Reuben is not only interested in photography compositionally, but also, he is intrigued by what is not readily visible. He asks himself, “How did this get here?”, “Why was it left like this?”, “What is the story behind this?”. These questions and more we have been trying to answer in the gallery with our visitors. Make sure to stop by the Ross and Overcash Galleries to see Reuben’s photography!
