CPCC Galleries stopped by Zachary Tate Porter’s Mint Hill studio this week to see work in progress for his upcoming show Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations and Burials (opening 9/16).
The paintings below are done on board and coated with resin, sometimes polished to a velvety finish. Atop painted grounds, Porter uses elements of collage and drawing to enhance the work.
The last pictures show Porter’s in-progress assemblages, wooden boxes with strong narrative quality containing artifacts of industry and nature.
The opening reception for Groundwork: Tracings, Excavations, and Burials is on Monday, September 16 in Pease Gallery. Porter will give an artist lecture in Pease Auditorium on Thursday, October 17 at 12 pm and at UNCC’s Hight Architecture Library on Friday, October 18 at 12:30 pm.
