Subject Guides Now Available!

At CPCC Library we know that sifting through the wealth of information available on the Internet and in library resources can be overwhelming. In an effort to help connect you with relevant and trustworthy information subject guides are now available in the Research Tools section of the CPCC Library website.

We are currently offering 16 guides in PDF format covering subjects from allied health to welding. Each guide has search tips and lists recommended resources including article databases, websites, books, and more! We hope that by highlighting a few key resources in each subject area these guides will serve to provide a solid start to your research.

Opposing ViewPoints — Now with ReadSpeaker

ReadSpeaker is now available in the Opposing ViewPoints database! This feature is meant to assist those with learning disabilities, who speak English as a second language, or have vision impairments. It does this by converting the text of each article to audio, allowing the reader to listen and read along at the same time. Best of all no extra downloads are required!

When viewing an article just look for the ReadSpeaker dashboard and click “Play”. Opposing ViewPoints is available on the Find-an-Article page of the library website.

The ReadSpeaker player appears at the top of most article in Opposing ViewPoints.
The above image is an example of the ReadSpeaker player, which is available on most Opposing ViewPoints articles.

Library Upgrading Computer System — Closed Spring Break

During the 2009 Spring Break, the CPCC Library is upgrading its entire online catalog and circulation system in order to maintain its cutting-edge, web-based library catalog and lending services. The new system, called SYMPHONY, is a versatile, user-friendly program that will help the library continue to meet the ever-expanding information needs of students, faculty, staff and our community users. Due to this upgrade, all CPCC libraries will be closed from March 9-14, 2009. The CPCC Library appreciates your patience during this innovative transition.
