The CPCC Libraries now have access to a number of new online resources.  Provided by NC Live, these databases expand coverage for already familiar resources, such as the EBSCOHost databases, as well as add several entirely new information sources.  Starting this month and continuing into the coming months, we will be profiling a selection of these new databases in our Resource of the Month feature.

Our featured resource for January is Hoover’s.  Hoover’s is a comprehensive business resource.  It contains profiles of millions of public and private companies and important individuals in business, as well as hundreds of profiles of major industries.  If you are in need of any business-related information, Hoover’s is your source for the most up-to-date, reliable information.  Need help learning how to use Hoover’s?  This database provides a thorough help section that includes a number of insightful training videos.

Language Learning iPhone / iPad App

Mango MobileMango Languages now offers a free app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The app offers the same functionality as Mango’s online self-study language learning software. Once installed, you can download the lessons you are interested in and use the app without an internet connection.

Mango includes 49 courses, 15 of which are English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.  Created to provide the conversation skills needed to successfully communicate and engage with the local population, Mango also provides an understanding of the new language and culture.

The lessons are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that goes beyond teaching vocabulary and pronunciation to integrate components of grammar and culture. Mango teaches actual conversation, breaking down complex conversational elements with a highly interactive interface that enables you to build important connections between previous lessons.
