Starting in August, interested students will have the option to pursue our new Kitchen & Bath Design Diploma. Please refer to the link in the main menu above for more information or contact the Program Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Beginning in August a few minor changes to our programs will take effect:
- DES 130, Digital Apps for Interior Design, will become a required course.
- ARC 133 and CIS 111 will no longer be required.
- ARC 111 will no longer be an acceptable alternative to DES 110.
- ARC 114 will no longer be an acceptable alternative to DES 120.
- The suggested sequence of courses and a few prerequisites have changed. Refer to the new program brochure for the updated course sequence.
Note that students currently in the program who have already taken the courses that are no longer required may continue with the requirements of the catalog year in which they started. Current students who have not yet taken ARC 133 and/or CIS 111 are urged to update to the new catalog year. The Program Chair, Mick Campbell, can assist with this change. Monika Nessbach, owner and principal designer of Designbar LLC and part time Interior Design student at Central Piedmont Community College, has been getting some great publicity lately.
The April 2016 issue of Charlotte Home + Garden ran an article titled “Inside a Designer’s Street Chic Home” featuring Monika’s home and office located in a Dilworth townhouse. Additionally, about four months ago a Charlotte Observer article, “Second Acts: Charlotte Designer’s Business Gets Boost From Former Employer”, described how Monika launched her design business while working for Continental Tire and taking interior design classes in her spare time.
Monika joined the CPCC Interior Design program as a part-time student in 2009. And with her success as an interior designer she continues to pursue department coursework for professional development, continued education and personal enrichment.
During the spring semester of 2015, Monika met a young classmate who would later intern for her. Together, they designed the stage setting for TEDx Charlotte in October of 2015 at Label Charlotte. The design featured red arrows pointing in different directions exemplifying the theme of the conference – Friction. The team wanted to add an aspect of giving back to the community through their design. Therefore, one of the arrows was built by stacking 1,000 cans of Campbell’s Soup that were later donated to the local food bank!
This spring, Monika is taking Architectural BIM (Building Information Modeling) which focuses on building computer 3D models using Autodesk Revit software. After only three classes, she used her newly acquired Revit skills to design a kid’s playhouse pavilion. Her design has been chosen to be constructed as part of the “Wee House” exhibition for the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Gastonia, NC. The Wee House exhibition is scheduled open at the end of April 2016 and is intended to inspire the imagination and evoke memories of childhoods past.
We are delighted and very proud to have Monika as a student in our program here at CPCC. She brings professional experience to the classroom enriching the learning experience for everyone.
