March Preparedness: Severe Weather Preparedness

As the winter draws to a close and spring begins, preparedness concerns shift from severe cold and winter storms to other types of severe weather including thunderstorms, flooding, and tornadoes.
  • If ordered to evacuate, take action immediately. Know the route and plan where to go. Identify a safe location, in case of tornado.
  • Prepare for tornadoes and other natural disasters by building an emergency kit and making a family communication plan

    Safest areas are:
  • Lowest building level
  • The center of a small interior room, such as a closet or interior hallway
  • Avoid windows, doors, and outside walls
