Please be alert of ongoing street work connected to the Gold Line Trolley Car project. From Dec. 5 to at least Dec. 19, the right lane of Elizabeth Avenue, in both directions, will be closed at Pease Lane and the Overcash Building. Be aware this street work will likely slow traffic and make turning onto Pease Lane from Elizabeth Avenue more difficult. If possible, students and employees driving vehicles should consider alternate routes. If you do drive through this area, please take special care to watch for pedestrians.
This closure will have a major impact on vehicular traffic on and around Central Campus. The map below shows the traffic flow during the construction project.
The construction project will force students and employees to plan accordingly. Getting in and out of Central Campus parking areas likely will take more time.
During construction, only one lane of Elizabeth Ave. will remain open for HANDICAPPED AND DROP-OFF TRAFFIC ONLY.
How will this work? Only the westbound lane of Elizabeth will be open from Charlottetowne Ave., to Pease Lane, at which point all traffic will be directed right onto Pease Lane, connecting drivers to N. Kings Drive and then E. 7th St.
CATS service will not be interrupted; however, the CATS bus stop near Central High and the Overcash Building will be unavailable.
Students: Please leave early to allow for any traffic delays during this time. An updated Central Campus map will be posted on the CPCC website just prior to Oct. 18, and will remain up until Kings Drive reopens.
Please be advised that starting on December 3, 2012, and continuing through December 12, 2012, the intersection at Kings Drive and Elizabeth Avenue will be closed in all four directions. The City of Charlotte along with Char-Meck Utility Department will be installing new sewer lines to support the next phase of the Street Car Project. The city will be installing directional barriers as required.
Gold Rush – Red Line (Presbyterian to CTC) – will use the regular route to Elizabeth & Charlottetowne, detour via Charlottetowne Ave. and 4th St., and resume the regular route. Gold Rush – Red Line (CTC to Presbyterian) – will use the regular route to Trade & McDowell, take McDowell to 3rd, take 3rd to Charlottetowne, take Charlottetowne to Elizabeth Ave. and resume route to Presbyterian. Stops will be out of service at the Aunt Stella Center and CPCC, or between McDowell Street and Charlottetowne Ave. The closest stop to the Aunt Stella Center will be in front of the County Jail. The Gold Rush stops to CPCC will be either inside the I-277 loop on Trade St. in front of the County Jail or across Charlottetowne Ave. on Elizabeth Ave. at Torrrence St.
