students. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of February/beginning of March. So, please excuse the noise and mess until then!

 

Student Parking Deck #3 to Close April 11

On Saturday, April 11, Student Parking Deck #3 (located at the corner of Charlottetowne Ave. and E. 7th St.) will be closed until around 5 p.m. for maintenance related activities. Students should plan to park in Student Deck 1, ConstructionStudent Deck 2 or one of the surface lots. The deck will re-open in late afternoon and be available for any Sensoria related activities.

CityLYNX Gold Line Update

Improvements continue to be made to the CityLYNX Gold Line, the City of Charlotte’s street car project. Construction crews have energized the overhead catenary system, which provides electricity to power the streetcar through a pantograph at the top of the railcar.
While power will be supplied overhead to the streetcar, the rails in the street will not be energized. Citizens can continue to drive, walk and bike across the city’s streets as normal.
The CityLYNX Gold Line is scheduled to begin passenger service by summer 2015.

Central Campus Traffic Alert

Please be alert of ongoing street work connected to the Gold Line Trolley Car project. From Dec. 5 to at least Dec. 19, the right lane of Elizabeth Avenue, in both directions, will be closed at Pease Lane and the Overcash Building. Be Pease Ln. Stop Locations Mapaware this street work will likely slow traffic and make turning onto Pease Lane from Elizabeth Avenue more difficult. If possible, students and employees driving vehicles should consider alternate routes. If you do drive through this area, please take special care to watch for pedestrians.

Central Campus Construction Updates

Central High Parking Lot Now Open Construction

Parking lot #4, located behind the Central High Building on Central Campus, is now open and features 88 CPCC student and visitor parking spaces, 10 handicapped-accessible spaces and two motorcycle spaces.

The lot has been closed since July 2014 for major reconstruction work. Since that time, construction crews have modernized the space, adding:

  • concrete curbs/gutters and sidewalks.
  • asphalt pavement, striping and wheel stops.
  • a perimeter block retaining wall along Kings Drive.
  • a new entry plaza, with brick pavers and benches.
  • a metal screen wall and gate at service court.
  • new, 30-foot parking lot pole lights, provided by Duke Energy.
  • new trees and landscaping.

Lot #4 is located off of Pease Lane, and may be accessed from Kings Dr. or Elizabeth Ave. For directions, view the Central Campus map

 

Elizabeth Ave. on Central Campus now open

Elizabeth Ave., from Charlottetowne Ave. to Kings Dr., on CPCC¹s Central Campus is now open. All traffic is now permitted to use Elizabeth Ave. as a thoroughfare.

 

Please note: Elizabeth Ave. is still closed past the Kings Dr. intersection to traffic travelling westbound toward uptown Charlotte.

Kings Dr. Reopened Near Central Campus

Kings Drive is now open; however, Elizabeth Ave. will remain closed until at least Nov. 23.

Elizabeth Ave. is still open for handicapped and drop-off traffic only.  All other traffic can use East 4th St. and E. 7th St. to access Kings Dr. until construction on Elizabeth Ave. is completed.

City to Close Kings Drive Oct. 21

The City of Charlotte has announced Kings Drive will be closed between 4th Street and 7th Street starting Oct. 21, and remain closed for several weeks, to install trolley car tracks at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Kings. Construction Map

This closure will have a major impact on vehicular traffic on and around Central Campus. The map below shows the traffic flow during the construction project.

The construction project will force students and employees to plan accordingly. Getting in and out of Central Campus parking areas likely will take more time.

CATS service will not be interrupted; however, the CATS bus stop near Central High and the Overcash Building will be unavailable.

Students: Please leave early to allow for any traffic delays during this time. An updated Central Campus map will be posted on the CPCC website just prior to Oct. 18, and will remain up until Kings Drive reopens.

New Look at Cato Campus

Cato Campus is growing. The campus is in the process of adding a new classroom building that will double the size of the campus over the next year. This new building will be called Cato III and is currently being built where a parking lot used to be. To compensate for the loss of parking spaces, facilities has added a North Lot, which may be accessed to the left when entering the campus from Grier Road.

Visitors may cross the new pedestrian bridge from the North Lot to reach Cato I, Cato II and the Horticulture complex. There will be signs to guide visitors around Cato Campus until everyone becomes familiar with the new layout.

Road Closure at Davidson and Trade Streets Jan. 27 – Feb. 24, 2014

The intersection of Trade Street and Davidson Street will close Monday, January 27, 2014 at 9 a.m. and will reopen Monday, February 24, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. This closure is necessary to accommodate utility relocation Constructionrelated to the CityLYNX Gold Line – Phase 1. Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.

Motorists on northbound Davidson Street can use East Fourth Street, South Caldwell Street and East Fifth Street as a detour. Motorists on Southbound Davidson Street can use East Sixth Street, North Brevard Street,  East Fifth Street, North Caldwell Street and East Third Street as a detour.

Local access will be maintained.
CATS will be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs,City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
 
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time.  It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
 
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.

Elizabeth Ave. to be Closed April 1 – 5, 2013

Please be advised that Elizabeth Avenue, from McDowell to Kings, will be closed starting Monday, April 1, 2013, to Friday afternoon, April 5, 2013. The detour will direct motorists over to 7th St. Construction

Lane Closure on Elizabeth Ave. to Disrupt Traffic Flow Beginning March 3

To accommodate water line and storm water construction related to the Charlotte Streetcar Starter Project, the 900 to 1100 block of Elizabeth Avenue between Kings Drive and McDowell Street will be reduced to a single lane of travel in each direction starting Sunday, March 3, 2013, until further notice. Construction

Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.

Access to businesses will be maintained.

CATS bus routes will be affected.

Update on Kings Drive Construction Project Near Central Campus

the 200 block of North Kings Drive between Elizabeth Avenue and Central Avenue closed February 19 and reopened on Feb. 26 at 6 a.m.

  • Due to unexpected utility conflicts, one southbound curb lane on North Kings Drive between Elizabeth Avenue and Central Avenue will remained closed until Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 6 p.m. Motorists can detour using Elizabeth Avenue, North McDowell Street and East Seventh Street. Access to businesses will be maintained.CATS bus routes will be affected.

Traffic to be Impacted Near Central Campus Feb. 19 – 25

Please be advised that the City of Charlotte will be starting the next section of the trolley project along Elizabeth Avenue.  The intersections at Kings Drive and Elizabeth Avenue, along with the intersection at 7th Street and Kings Dr., will be effected starting February 19, 2013, to February 25, 2013. This work is required to install the underground utilities. Directional barricades will be installed to direct vehicular traffic as needed.
