Auditions for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ Aug. 26 – 27

Little Shop of Horrors

Central Piedmont Theatre will hold auditions for “Little Shop of Horrors” on August 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. in the Tate Hall of the Overcash Performing Arts Center. You do not have to be a student in order to audition.

Auditions will consist of a prepared song of 16 to 32 bars with sheet music in the correct key. Be dressed to move. No preparation necessary or appointment necessary.

We are looking to cast approximately 20 performers ages 16 to 60+. For more information and to see the list of characters needed, click here.

Click dates to register for photo sessions in Ross Gallery on August 26 and August 27.

Atlanta-based photographer Melissa Alexander uses her camera to create a space of respite and self-rediscovery. Join her at Central Piedmont Community College’s Ross Art Gallery on August 26 and 27 from 3 – 7 p.m. for “Blur,” a special community portrait project that reclaims not only our time, but ourselves. Participate in a fun and affirming photo session where your self will be uncovered, your bravery rewarded, and your vulnerability empowered.

Melissa Alexander’s photography sessions are a part of the larger exhibition, “Blur: A Community Portrait Project” on view in Ross Gallery on October 16.

Photographs completed during these portrait sessions will be exhibited at the Ross Art Gallery, October 16 – December 12, 2019.

 

The Exhibition ‘Shift’ Comes to the Ross and Overcash Art Galleries

“Shift” explores the idea of assigning value to the invaluable. Unifying found, recycled, and uncommon objects, Bloom, Foshag, and Lewis use these materials to create their art. All three artists work in various types of media, constructing their creations out of chaos. Each one strives to find beauty in the dramatic shifts of life through deconstruction, rebirth, and growth.

Central Piedmont Art Gallery Scholarship Program 2019-2020

Central Piedmont Community College art galleries are committed to inspiring, educating, and engaging students, faculty, and community members through access to exceptional visual art in all media. The Galleries support the teaching mission of the college by serving as a lab for the visual arts curricula and enriching other program areas of the college.

The Central Piedmont Art Gallery Program is an opportunity for current students at Central Piedmont to volunteer with the Arts Galleries Program to build leadership skills and gain valuable educational experience. Volunteers will learn about the daily operations of art galleries, explore possible careers in art-related fields, and share a passion for visual arts with others.

Opportunities:
– Limited and awarded based on skills and qualification of the applicant.
– Available with the Ross Gallery and the Patty and Bill Gorelick Galleries at Central Piedmont.
– Students are expected to complete 5 to 10 hours a week during the semester.
– Students are expected to commit to both the fall and spring semester.
– Opportunities during the summer term may also be available.

Provided by the Central Piedmont Foundation, a scholarship of $2,000 is available to student volunteers accepted into this program for the 2019-2020 academic year. Please complete an application by August 2.

Since 1963, Central Piedmont has been an innovative national leader among two-year institutions. College alumni include a Pulitzer Prize winner, a Metropolitan Opera star, an Olympic gold medalist, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, a television actress and a pro football player. Countless others – chefs, healthcare providers, technicians, real estate brokers, paralegals, firefighters, teachers, law enforcement officers, trades people, engineers, artists and others who serve our community – share Central Piedmont’s proud tradition.

On display, visitors will have the opportunity to see how our logo has changed over the years and learn about the stories of our students over nearly a 60 year time span. This exhibition is dedicated to the past, present, and future students of Central Piedmont – where possibility powers everything!

Andrea Vail is the featured visual artist for Sensoria 2019! Throughout Spring 2019, Vail facilitated “Bridging,” a multi-campus, collaborative, and large-scale fabric project culminating in its installation in the Overcash Lobby for Sensoria. “Bridging” is a tangible representation of Central Piedmont’s diverse community: coming from unique experiences, converging at Central Piedmont Community College, then venturing onward. Rooted in the intercultural and generational traditions of patterned textiles, this work, embellished with palm-sized tassels and printed with student-sourced imagery, is both inclusive of individual identities and realized as one unified fabric.

“Illuminate,” Oil on Canvas, by Jean Cauthen

Jean Cauthen’s work is distinctive for its vivid but complex color relationships and joie de vivre. Beneath the color lies references to past artists, eras and movements, adding layers of meaning to her illuminated colors.

While her subject often derives from the past, the form – the sea of small, chaotic shapes to create a harmonious whole – reflects a more modern gestalt. Within that sea are complex relationships and contradictions in which she expresses order, beauty and joy. Beyond the message of order, Jean hopes the viewer responds on a visceral level to these combinations.

Jean grew up in Naples, Italy, New Orleans and the Carolinas and currently works in the Charlotte area.

  2. Take a close-up picture of it – make sure the photo is clear
  3. Post the picture on Instagram or Facebook with the #CPbridging and @CPbridging
  4. Your photos will be included in the collaborative 68 feet fabric installation that will hang in the Overcash lobby during Sensoria!

The Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim musical “Gypsy” comes to the Halton stage for the first time this winter in time for Valentine’s Day. Considered by many to the greatest of all American musicals, “Gypsy” tells the story of Gypsy Rose Lee and her indomitable mother.  Often called the King Lear of musicals, Mama Rose’s Turn is a tour de force that climaxes an evening of musical theatre filled with amazing tunes like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You” and theshow-stoppingg “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.”  “Gypsy” promises to be a night of theatre to remember for a lifetime.

The recently opened 39 piece exhibit at the Bill and Patty Gorelick Gallery Harris Campus represents a broad and diverse range from Dr. Larry Brady’s eclectic collection. The selection of paintings, engravings, photographs, and sculptures,  are made from glass, wood, paint, ceramic, paper, fiber, and metal.

A critical component in Dr. Brady’s philosophy for collecting is the relationship with the artist. Through his understanding of and appreciation for the materials and the process, a connection to the artist is forged. Larry Brady enjoys living with each piece of art in his collection and sharing them with as many people as possible.
