Now – Dec. 11
Gorelick Gallery, Harris Campus, Harris II
Revealing/Concealing explores the middle ground between painting and sculpture and also tests the limits of what the paint medium itself can do. Paul Farmer creates collages using multiple paint skins, allowing them to become so dense that layers are hidden. These organic abstractions reveal the artist’s interest in natural processes, color and topography. The textures and colors of Mr. Farmer’s art are influenced heavily by his time spent living in the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. His works complement the natural beauty surrounding the Harris Conference Center.
An alumnus of Central Piedmont Community College, Mr. Farmer transferred to North Carolina State University and then to Western Carolina University where he earned his Master of Fine Art degree. He currently lives in Charlotte, N.C.
Over the years, Mr. Gorelick and his late wife, Patty, collected many beautiful glass and ceramic sculptures from artists all over the world. Mr. Gorelick agreed to loan pieces from his personal collection to complement the paintings by his friend, Dr. Ed Newman. The inspiration for Dr. Newman’s paintings comes from the scenes and landscapes he has encountered through his travels across the globe.
